Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi - The Hindu My VIEW: The two statesmen have made a good beginning by starting a meaningful dialogue in a healthy environment. Since May 2014, Prime Minister Modi has been stressing the responsibility of the elected representatives to jointly take decisions on crucial issues, after due deliberations in legislatures. Each voter voted for the candidate/party considered best among the available during the election. There was no premonition about whether the candidate s/he voted would be in the ruling ‘coalition’ or in the opposition when the election was over. This disadvantage of the Indian voter, bestows a heavy responsibility on the candidates getting elected. That responsibility is of participating in the governance of the country with full involvement. Though for the purpose of parliamentary debates, treasury benches have to be responsible for the policies and those in opposition need to oppose wrong policies and wrong moves from the government, for the voter, it is the joint responsibility of the entire legislature to provide good governance.
