Pre-Religion Indian Wisdom Part V Upanishads

This is Part V of a 5 part series on Pre-Religion Indian Wisdom. Concluding the series, we introduce major Upanishads here. Due to time and space constraints the encouraging and enlightening responses received from readers about Parts I to IV of this series are not being shared. Some of you have rightly copied the responses to Groups. Thanks 🙏 Though there are more than 100 known Upanishads, ten of them for which Shankaracharya has written commentaries are more popular. Eight Upanishads with Sanskrit text and English translation of Acharya's commentaries are available in 2 volumes* (Published by Advaita Ashram) We started this series following a talk on Vedas and concluding today with an enlightening talk by Sarvapriyananda. He tells you the meaning of the word "Vedanta". It's not "The End" Do listen. Pre-Religion Indian Wisdom Part IV

This is Part IV of a 5 part series on Pre-Religion Indian Wisdom. Here we introduce Atharva Veda This series on Vedic Literature is not based on any formal study. Pre-Religion Indian Wisdom Part III Sama Veda

This is Part III of a 5 part series on Pre-Religion Indian Wisdom. Here we introduce Sama Veda M G Warrier Pre-Religion Indian Wisdom Part III Sama Veda A Introduction https://www.britannica.com/topic/Samaveda Excerpts : Brahmanas of the Samaveda are the Panchavimsha (“of 25 [books]”), the Shadvimsha (“of 26 [books]”), and the Jaiminiya (or Talavakara) Brahmana. They show almost complete accordance in their exposition of the “going of the cows” ceremony, the various soma ceremonies, and the different rites lasting from 1 to 12 days. Also described are the atonements required when mistakes or evil portents have occurred during sacrifices. B Sama Veda : Basics https://www.speakingtree.in/blog/samaveda Excerpts : Sama Veda, Samveda, or Samaveda (Sanskrit: सामवेदः, sāmav- eda, from sāman "melody" + veda "knowledge" ), is the third of the four Vedas, the ancient core Hindu scriptures, along with the Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, and Atharva Veda. Its earliest parts

Pre-Religion Indian Wisdom Part II

This is Part II of a five parts series on Pre-Religion Indian Wisdom introducing Vedas and major Upanishads 🙏 Today we cover the basics of Yajur Veda. M G Warrier Sri Mookambika Yatra https://youtu.be/iePZIZh6e9w Pre-Religion Indian Wisdom Part II YAJUR VEDA A Yajur Veda : Introduction https://vedicheritage.gov.in/samhitas/yajurveda/ Excerpts : The Yajurveda is more pronouncedly a ritual Veda for it is essentially a guide-book for the Adhvaryu priest who had to do practically all ritualistic works in a sacrifice. His works vary from the selection of a plot of land for the sacrificial altar down to offering oblations to the sacred fires. Just as the Samaveda-Samhita is the song-book of the Udgata priest, so the Yajurveda-Samhitas are the prayer-books for the Adhvaryu priest. It is solely meant for the purposes of sacrificial rituals. The Yajurveda is also important for its presentation of philosophical doctrines. It preaches the concept of Prana and Manas also. Many times,

Pre-Religion Indian Wisdom Part I (September 26, 2022)

This is Part I of a five part series introducing Vedas and select Upanishads. Efforts will be made to keep the discussion non-controversial and secular. Effort will be to keep the introduction brief, leaving it to the readers to pursue further, if they so desire. The expanse knowledge stored in the 4 Vedas and Upanishads was explained in a talk (YouTube link ) shared on September 24, 2022. My understanding is that the four Vedas and all Upanishads available today are part of Pre-Religion Indian Wisdom. Reference to any religion in the discussion may not have any link to the original texts. Such references are caused by the fact that the ancient way of life in this geographical area which later came to be known as Hinduism accepted many of the rituals and practices prescribed in the Vedas and Upanishads. Here we go by the dictum : पुराणमित्येव न साधु सर्वं न चाऽपि काव्यं नवमित्यवद्यम्। सन्तः परीक्ष्यान्यतरत् भजन्ते मूढ्ः परप्रत्ययनेयबुद्धिः ॥ -मालविकाग्निमित्रम् (महाकवि कालिदास) En

Ganga in Indian History and Mythology Part V

Ganga in Indian History and Mythology Part V This is the fifth and concluding part of a five part series on Ganga. We just touched upon certain known aspects of the river with the aim of removing certain misconceptions in the minds of some of us, crept in through social media in the recent past. Hopefully, some of the references made will make students among us to read and understand more about India's heritage in the form of material resources and knowledge remaining unexploited. Ganga and Saraswati are just symbols. Beyond the historical and Mythological relevance, Ganga has a more important role in supporting agriculture and connecting India in every sense in the coming years. With this positive note and hoping to revisit the subject with more encouraging information we close this series today 🙏-Warrier Those who have missed earlier parts of the series can access them @warriersblog.com M G Warrier M 134 1) Haridwar https://youtu.be/3lVmy7rZ4dE 2) Life is Ganga https://

But we have not understood the spirit behind it. We say Water is Holy. In Perumal temples they give THIRTHAM, HOLY WATER. We blindly take it. If only we learn, the purpose of living is fulfilled… Purity in everything in body, mind and intellect without corrupt in thinking. Scientifically we say H2O is water. Two molecules of Hydrogen and one of Oxygen combined is WATER. HYDROGEN is combustible while OXYGEN aids combustion. BUT the combination of the two extinguishes FIRE. WATER, INCREDIBLE, AWESOME.
