Warrier's Collage on Sunday February 23, 2025

Welcome To Warrier's COLLAGE On Sunday, February 23, 2025 🙏 Happy Birthday to all readers having Birthday during this week. M G Warrier A Remaining active Watched a video clip in which a young lady introduced her 94 years old aunt from Thalassery who opted painting as a hobby around her middle age During the pandemic I wrote about "Knowing when to stop and make a new beginning" : https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/readersblog/warriersviews/knowing-when-to-stop-and-make-a-new-beginning-30305/ Then, the focus was on the first half of the title. Yes, it's important to know when to stop. In Malayalam there is a saying which means "One should stop singing when ones voice is best". But the suggestion that one should know when to stop doesn't mean that discontinuing an activity for which one is no more suitable for any reason should be the end of active life for the person. First let's discuss hobbies. Like painting, knitting, drawing, gard...

Welcome To Warrier's COLLAGE On Sunday, February 16, 2025 Friends Happy Birthday to all readers having birthday during this week. Best Wishes & Regards 🙏 A Cover Story PERMANENT ADDRESS* (Written by Javed Akhtar who celebrated his 80th Birthday) Our Joint family home housed 14 of us from age 5 to 95 years. Today, I watch both the houses abandoned and nature taking over the garden my mother used to tend for hours every day. The Jamun, the Drumstick, a few Ashok, Neem and Peepal have survived, but all beauty is both transient and fragile, and the law of entropy is powerful. The lovely flowers of myriad colors are all gone. I wonder what happened to the peacock family that came every day and ate from my moms hand. The Bulbul, the sparrows, the parrots, spotted flycatchers, Cuckoos, a huge troop of monkeys that once in a month would upset the order of the place. Once People leave, a Home becomes a House. Initially, I didn’t feel like selling, and now I don’t feel lik...

Welcome To Warrier's COLLAGE On Wednesday, February 13, 2025 Praise for HAL 🙏 (See C) A Cover Story In Praise Of Masala Dosa* Ask any true masala dosa addict. Making and eating masala dosa is an art. It is an acquired trait. The most important rules to follow… 1. The dosa should be big and uniformly crisp till you finish the last piece. 2. It should retain its shape till the last bit gets over. 3. It should have a slight fermented taste. 4. The filling should be thick enough not to sog the belly of the dosa. 5 Watery chutney or sambar which do not stick to the dosa. There should be a cordial adhesion between them. 6 Soggy or over-thick dosas have nothing to do with masalas. They are only for amateurs who eat dosa with lentil powders or sugar. 7 Wash your hands and eat your dosa with your hands… eating with spoon and fork or fork and knife is a joke on our dosa's pride. 8 Dosas without enough oil poured when getting done is a let-down. Please be lavish in p...

Interaction keeps me going!

Interaction keeps me going I get part of my oxygen from interaction with others. These daily messages, occasional phone calls, meeting with relatives and friends and reading help me remain connected to different sources of oxygen : https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/readersblog/warriersviews/remain-connected-online-49403/ Remembered all this when I was going through the brief response from my Guru C V Subbaraman to "Challenge Yourself" quoted in my message yesterday. He said : "Every human being rises every morning from bed with a vision to strive better than on the previous day with the hope that today will be better than yesterday. Otherwise every day will be depressing. Each morning has in store an opportunity for doing better than yesterday." Thank you, 🙏 CVS Sir. The challenges vary for each individual, each moment. Trump would not have anticipated many of the challenges he has been facing today. I'm just assuming from the speed with which he is tryi...

Speaking Tree : Challenge Yourself https://m.economictimes.com/opinion/speaking-tree/challenge-yourself/articleshow/117924281.cms Good Morning Please save this and read at least once this week. You may not find anything new. But chances are, you may find something new to do. If you don't, don't worry, you are comfortable with whatever you are doing. Still, the time I've borrowed from you for reading this will be a worthy investment 🙏 Regards M G Warrier

The Covenant of Water

The Book on my table : The Covenant of Water By Abraham Verghese This 736 page novel came to me from my son Kiran few months back. I'm yet to read. Have glanced through and may, one day, start reading. Perhaps today. My reading is not relevant. I envy people who are able to focus on lot of research before writing. Nowadays, there are many who have taken up writing seriously, and as a passion, like Manu S Pillai (author of Ivory Throne with focus on Travancore) Priced at less than 500 The Covenant of Water spread in 736 pages in small print is a collector's item. Happy Birthday to all readers having Birthday during this week. Happy Birthday and Ayurarogyasaukhyam to C V Subbaraman, Mysuru who celebrated his 91st Birthday on January 29, 2025. 🙏 M G Warrier A Point to ponder : Shared by Vathsala Jayaraman, Chennai A donkey was tied to a tree. One night a ghost cut the rope and released the donkey free. The donkey went and destroyed the crops in an adjacent farmer's land. Infuriated, the farmer's wife shot the donkey and killed it. The donkey's owner was devastated at the loss. In reply, he killed the farmer's wife. Angered by his wife's death, the farmer took a sickle and killed the donkey's owner. The wife of the donkey's owner got so angry that she and her sons set the farmer's house on fire. The farm...
