Remaining active
Watched a video clip in which a young lady introduced her 94 years old aunt from Thalassery who opted painting as a hobby around her middle age During the pandemic I wrote about "Knowing when to stop and make a new beginning" :

Then, the focus was on the first half of the title. Yes, it's important to know when to stop. In Malayalam there is a saying which means "One should stop singing when ones voice is best".
But the suggestion that one should know when to stop doesn't mean that discontinuing an activity for which one is no more suitable for any reason should be the end of active life for the person.
First let's discuss hobbies. Like painting, knitting, drawing, gardening, writing or any other activity one is comfortable with or can develop necessary skills.
The lady referring to whom this piece started had taken up painting as her hobby at a younger age. On her 94th Birthday, her family encouraged her to exhibit her accumulated collection of about 200 paintings in public. She insisted the hobby was for her timepass and not for name and fame.
As a compromise she agreed arranging an exhibition of her paintings at her residence. It lasted for three days and several people including well-known persons from different walks of life from near and far visited the house to see the paintings and many sought the blessings from the nonagenarian artist.
Recently one of my cousins shared a couple of her random writings. She has been recording her past memories and writing down notes on events of interest she comes across in daily life.
Writing seconds as a mental exercise and serves as a good timepass. Once the written pages accumulate, next thought that surfaces is about getting published.
For those who are familiar with internet and publications, today there are several options to see manuscripts in print. From Blogs and online websites and magazines to newspapers and periodicals and finally books.

Reader's Digest
My' Digest is safe
Recently, in a WhatsApp group, a message was shared about the closure of one edition of Reader's Digest. I was getting print edition of Digest published from India. Just to ensure that the Indian edition is safe, I immediately sent my subscription for one year.
Over the last 60 years or so, cover price of Reader's Digest has gone up from less than two rupees to Rs125/- This is commensurate with the overall price rise. Meanwhile, the book has become slim and beautiful.
Jokes apart, Team RD has been maintaining the variety and quality of content without any compromise, despite various constraints.
I'm reading January 2025 Reader's Digest now.
No other magazine can ever compress and present the content of page 104 of this book without missing essentials as has been done here. Krishna Reddy and his art work are introduced to the reader arousing his thirst to know more, exceptionally well.
My Digest is safe in the present generation of editors.
