Letter to Editor
Dear Editor,
'Modify Pensioners' Monthly Pension Statement’
The 'Pension Statement' presently issued by RBI
Samadhan to its Pensioners contains the following three
components under the head 'Earnings' :
a) D. Relief (CPI Index 2012) b) Pension (Basic/
Commuted) and c) Gross Earnings.
However, the current use of the words Pension
(Basic/Commuted) creates a lot of confusion. As is well
known, 'Dearness Relief' is calculated and paid only on
the amount of the 'Basic Pension' denoting 50% of the
'Superannuation Pay' and not on the 'commuted portion'
thereof. It is, therefore, most humbly suggested that its
'Earnings' side may be modified as under:
a) D. Relief (CPI Index 2012) b) Pension Basic (50% of
Superannuation Pay) c) Pension Commuted and d)
Gross Earnings.
The above suggestions, if accepted, would make it
much easier to understand.

December 23, 2022
Timely caution
This refers to the report "Random testing of global passengers underway : Mandaviya to Parliament " (December 23). As the country, pharmaceutical industry and healthcare system are fully prepared and equipped to meet any eventuality arising from unexpected variations in the spread of new Covid variants, Dr Jacob John's balanced observation that the situation warrants "only a cautious and, not an anxious response" can be accepted on face value.
IMA's December 22 advisory with some positive wibes is also indicative of a constant interaction between the medical profession and other stakeholders including government in managing any spurt in numbers in the near term.

William Shakespeare*
William Shakespeare was a writer and an actor. Things that you probably did not know about William Shakespeare perhaps the best playwright who can evoke all the senses in his audience through his dialogues .
The life of William Shakespeare has been no less than fascinating with the characters that he has developed that also left us fascinated. If you are a fan of Shakespeare and want to know the fascinating tale of the story teller then keep on reading as the list of facts gets more interesting.
Marrying an older woman.
Yes, he married an older woman but there is no reason to think that this is because he might have had a wild nature. The actual incident was that Anne Hathaway was unmarried and along with that she was pregnant at that time. So this raised a number of eyebrows in the church and to save her from the judgments of the society, the 18 year old Shakespeare married 26 year old Anne Hathaway.
An Actor as well as a Writer.
Many of us only know that he was a writer who mesmerised everyone through his plays and sonnets. But very few know that he has also had the passion for acting. He acted in several of his own plays as well as in plays written by others. It is evident that he played the role of the ghost in Hamlet and Adam in As You Like it.
Influence on English Language.
For ages the English language has been influenced by other languages and there are a number of loan words that make up for the richness of the language. But it also borrowed some words from its speakers as well. There are many terms that we use now which were not used before the introduction of it by Shakespeare.
Words like and phrases like fashionable, lacklustre, sanctimonious, in a pickle and goose chase and many more. He was also the inventor of some popular English names like Miranda, Cordelia, Jessica and Olivia.
Closeness to the Royals.
The popularity of Shakespeare was so widespread that he was very popular with the royals like Queen Elixabeth the First and later King James the First who became a diehard fan of his.

The bull dance was famous in a certain kingdom. Those who wanted to participate had to pass a test which consisted of finding one's way
thro a complicated maze. There was a monster inside the maze. The person had to win over the monster, which was relatively easy
compared to coming out of the complicated web.
The princess of the kingdom was in love with a man, whom
she wanted to pass the test. She gave him a fine golden thread.
She held one end of it and tied the other end to the man's waist.
The thread was invisible to others. The man went into the maze, killed the
monster, retraced his source with the help of the thread, participated in the bull dance & won the princess's hand.
The story which looks simple, is of great philosophical significance.
The monster represents 'the enemy within'-irrational fears
and anxieties that make us feel incompetent to face the challenges.
The bull represents 'danger'. The complicated maze represents our
mundane desires and pre occupations which distract us from the real goals of life.
The thin golden thread is the invaluable spiritual aid of 'faith' and 'trust'
We face our inner fears and worldly temptations with the help of practising 'spirituality'. Thus we can emerge from the dark regions of doubt to the festive stage of dance, music and marriage.
The secret is the golden thread, the spiritual bond invisible to every one except the'seeker' and the 'sought', connecting
the two with a strong unbreakable cord.
