Good Morning
I'm making conscious efforts to drop out from Collage. It's not happening. As I am one who advised a smoker who sought my advice for stopping smoking that "the day you decide not to light the next cigarette and implement the decision... that's it", I am confident, any issue of Collage can be the farewell issue.
Nice Day

A wide range of issues in this attractive edition of Collage : tastes like a well prepared Aviyal with many vegetables. Even without any papad one can enjoy it!
Poem on MUMBAI is brilliant, to say the least. Each line and each stanza is short and sweet. Mumbai suits to every pocket: from Ambanis to Adanis to the man in the street, with some bowl in hand though without any homes. After all, platforms provide space to live and bathe and sleep. They cannot be closed and remain open 24 hours every day and night. They are every one's right, and need not give rise to fight, for they are long and long and long from Bori Bunder to Thane on one side, Mankhurd on another and Borivali yet on one more.
Mumbai does not say NO to any one!
Coming to Mani Shankar and his writing : He seems to be indulging in writing when nothing else precious to do. His main vocation I thought was to give out a collection of well made quotable quotes of slangs for any occasion. But his brilliance cannot be denied even by his bitterest opponents; yet, he seems to be a poor astrologer, for it is he who asserted thrice in succession :
" A chaiwalla will not become PM of India, chaiwalla will not become PM of India, chaiwalla will not become PM of India".
His offer to the chaiwalla to serve tea in AICC office was not accepted and goes abegging even today!! We await his next prediction and offer.
Thanks to Collage which brings out the inner ideas of many in the group, which inspire to write prose or poetry, which keeps the ageing minds active and agile, keep our memories sharp and above all to give us moments of entertainment, knowledge, ideas, and a pleasant reading time.

Ship Building in India
Media Response
Building new ships in India
This refers to the report "Govt inks Rs19,000-cr deal with HSL, for 5 fleet support ships" (The Hindu Business Line, August 26). Beginning of a mission is equally worth celebration as the successful completion of a project. Beginning of a huge ship-building project
happening in the vicinity of Sriharikkotta, during the same week we are celebrating India's arrival on the moon adds fragrance to gold.
One is tempted to consider Chandrayan 3 as an auspicious omen on the horizon of India's growth story.

BRICS expansion and India*
This refers to the report "India backs BRICS expansion : Modi" (The Hindu Business Line, August 24). By and large, BRICS has been doing well during recent years and that is reflected in the expression of interest shown by several countries to come to its fold. With their dominating population share in the grouping, it's natural that India and China expect to have a commensurate role in decision making within the institutional framework.
However, that should not lead to anything comparable to the Veto power usurped by the then powerful countries during the formative years of UN.
When the membership doubles and the body's representation crossed half-way mark of world population and GDP, we can expect changes for the better in the role BRICS can play in world trade and regional cooperation in overall economic growth.
Thinking beyond membership issues, the tidings are now favourable for India and BRICS to remain in central stage and playing a proactive role in moulding world opinion towards disarmament and concentrating on ploughing of resources to ensure poverty alleviation and protecting environment. The initiatives in this direction will get support from people across the world.

It is high time indeed that UN Security Council is reorganized giving due representation to those having large population.

Spiritual Apparatus
There was a much respectable king. He had a monk as his Guru.
The Guru used to meet the king daily and give him a wild forest fruit.
The forest fruit does not look juicy but looks very gross. Daily the king accepted
the fruit for courtesy sake, but threw it in the basement. Now the basement became crowded and the king just wanted to clear off everything. He gave a fruit
to the palace monkey. When the monkey just
started biting the fruit, there was a big diamond inside the fruit. The king rushed to the basement, opened fruit after fruit. He realised his folly of discarding
the gift given by Guru. He apologised to the Guru.
The guru blessed him and said :
"This is what is exactly happening to humanity.
Every moment God is blessing us with an experience, we just examine the outer layer and miss the valuable message hidden in the experience. It may be a marriage,
a divorce, birth of a child or death of a beloved-there is a powerful divine message.
The King was Vikramaditya and the Guru was Betal or mystic.
I am reminded of what J Krishnamurthy said "The word is not the thing. The description is not the described".
It may not be possible for us to understand so many things. Better be calm, still be aware.
The message is loud and clear.
Don't ignore. First listen (shrotavyam)'
Second : Reflect (Mantavyam)
Third : Learn to meditate(nidhidyasitavyam)
The third stage is surely attainable if we determine to follow the first two.

Joseph Potenzano is 93 and has never been married. About a year ago, he was sitting alone on his sofa at home in Paramus, N.J., when he suddenly thought about his friend, Mary Elkind.
“I realized that I had no one to call, and I was lonely,” Potenzano said. “Mary was in the same situation, so I decided, ‘Why not ask her out?’”
