Welcome To Warrier's COLLAGE On Friday September 15, 2023 Bharat : Mother of Democracy https://ebook.g20.org/ebook/bharatmod/index.html Thoughts for the Day : V T Panchapagesan What is the remedy? Make the good better……. A lady lost her purse and reported the matter to the police… She was CALM , UNPERTURBED ABOUT THE LOSS.. SHE SAID ‘I never worry , I believe in the goodness of people,’ Her unshakable faith in the goodness of human beings were Justified as someone found and returned it with all contents intact…. Belief in the goodness is a wholesome point of view and the basis For a healthy optimism. But we should not push it too for. Humans have shadowy side, as they are a fallen race… Besides, if we believe in the absolute goodness, there is incentive To make things better….. It is only when we see the weak and defective side of human nature , We are inclined to change and improve things……. Shiva and Vishnu know this and they go hand in hand adjusting themselves facing all problems with their wings Of Faith to rise ……. We never know how high we are Till we are called to rise…… Emily Dickinson. V T Panchapagesan Collage Editorial Friends Out of sight...out of mind... Hope 🙏 all fine in the group. You may have if you follow the right social media accounts, as that was some false messaging being pushed by AI-powered Chinese social media bots. While the China effort was a little too outlandish to be believed by anyone other than the Jewish Space Laser crowd, the Russians used the Maui tragedy to spread "posts that emphasized how much money the United States was spending on the war in Ukraine and that suggested the cash would be better spent at home for disaster relief." Beyond wishing well to the newly inducted team members at Reliance, we should appreciate the evolving succession plan at the helm of an industrial house which is gaining more prominence and relevance in country's growth context. World over, succession planning in family owned industrial houses, leadership team becomes dependent on individuals. Consequently, smooth transition from generation to generation becomes more and more complicated with diversification and growth of areas of specialisation. At the moment we can be proud of India's industrial houses like the mature Tatas and emerging Ambanis. M G Warrier Mumbai Bull run This refers to the couple of letters to the editor on the subject published on September 15, 2023(The Hindu Business Line). Market fluctuations reflected by movements of Sensex and Nifty in the recent past reflect by and large, realities. But there's one area where it takes longer time to absorb positive indicators and that is the rating of India and Indian institutions by international bodies. One could have ignored it but for its impact on costs of external borrowings and value of Indian currency. High time we thought of an India-based Global Rating Agency. M G Warrier Mumbai C Cover Story : Worship By Vathsala Jayaraman We have electric bulb at home. But it does not give brighter light of its own accord. It has to get connected to the electricity that is produced somewhere else. The electricity has to reach our home from power Station->power house-> Transformer->E. B. Main Board->to all the bulbs and electrical gadgets. Electricity is equated to God/ Goddess Power Station is the earth. Power Houses are Temples Transformers are the pooja halls/altars in individual houses. Fuse Wire is the mode of worship Bulbs are human beings. Shining of the bulb is getting some vibration or spiritual enlightenment. Fuse Wire or the worship is an effort to establish contact between the Almighty and human beings. When you don't pay the electricity charges, the E. B. authorities just disconnect the fuse and the entire house becomes dark. When you stop worshipping, there will be no fues wire, your mind also gets into the darkness of AGNAANA. The main purpose of worship is not to get a solution to our day to day problems. It is something more precious. It is an oft quoted saying that if your problems get solved by worship it means that you have faith in Him. If the problems do not get solved it means that God has faith in your capabilities. Worship does not refer to prayer to any particular deity, God/Goddess of any particular religion. It is essentially understanding divinity. It is said the word 'IDOL WORSHIP' itself is a wrong expression. It is as wrong as 'hot ice'. If there is a feeling that "this is a mere idol" there cannot be any worship. In real worship the feeling of 'metal' or 'stone' cannot arise. As soon as the worship starts, the metal disappears. Only God/Goddess stands there. Vathsala Jayaraman D Collage Poetry : Franklin Misquith Grandparents Day It fell on the 10th of September, They are still around, But as Grandpa has become weak, He hardly opens his beak, To speak, He is a bit of a freak, But like the good Lord he is humble and meek, He is like this week after week, He readily parts with ❔whatever others seek, We wish he was tall and sturdy like teak, But grandma makes up for him and ensures that when he opens his mouth to speak, It does not smell of onion leek, But at heart grandpa is like Adonis the Greek. Now time is running out for grandpa, At no one he is no longer at par, But his entire being is like a shining star, Grandma on the contrary can still fight a war, No one can open her cash drawer, Grandpa prefers to hold a box of crayons and draw, When he was a young lad he wanted to study law, But the trouble is, he could not hold even a straw, Anyway, He is fond of veggies which are raw. E Jiddu Krishnamurthy : A view on existence of God https://youtu.be/tYjYL448-yY?feature=shared This link will take you to a brief talk on God by Jiddu Krishnamurthy (Video uploaded 7 years ago). JK is challenging some of the concepts of God he happened to come across. His words are not final and each one is free to arrive at her/his own conclusions depending on the level of understanding from time to time. I've no quarrel with any of the belief systems I have come across except when they are used with negative or corrupt motives. I'm from a family which depended on temples and gods for survival. I believe, God is the sum total of energy from beginning to the end of Universe in the expanded sense of the word Universe. In simpler terms, God is my experience when I am alive. Philosopher won't explain philosophy in simple terms, as economists won't explain things in a way the common man will understand. I'm able to use commonsense because I am not "educated". F Monologue : M G Warrier Reinventing normalcy M G Warrier Yes. You have guessed it right. I'm talking about the post-pandemic life. For many of us, after adjusting to the chaotic rigours of surviving the pandemic, adjusting to the make do new normal was not easy. Many of us are limping back to a moving target. Take my case. I'll be 80 next year. Till the pandemic shaked life around, I never experienced ageing though almost two decades were over after retirement. Pandemic has changed people's perceptions about life, and perhaps death. Many things have changed during the last three years. It's said, when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. Easier said. For most of the people, from the newborn to the nonagenarian who lived through the last three years, a substantial portion of the period has been irrecoverably lost. Many who have survived infections during the three year period have carried forward residual health issues. Many have lost jobs. Wondering why I am making a list now? The reason is, there are several problems which have ready solutions, if only we speak out and seek the remedial measures. Many temporary adjustments which we put up with have become permanent by habit. No harm in going back to pre-pandemic practices, if you will be more comfortable with them. Take it as my self assertion, still when I move out, I find that near normalcy is back in place. "Tooth for a tooth...Eye for an Eye 👁️!" The above quote is not used in the conventional sense. Just remembered after my chats with my Dentist and the Ophthalmic Surgeon this year, after which I opted for a dental overhaul and cataract surgery for my both eyes. Tooth implant Last year I had some visits to a popular dentist in Thiruvananthapuram and was poorer by about a lakh rupees. Back in Mumbai, I went to a dentist here with a detachable denture with a single tooth received now and four molar teeth fixed a decade ago which came out losing ground. The doctor examined and advised some route canal treatment and implant of half a dozen teeth. Total cost : Over 3 lakh. I said : "Dr I'm 79. I don't think we should spend this much now on teeth. I would consider removable denture which will be costing one-third." Dr : "Whether you live for months or years, you need teeth for chewing. If you can afford ( I understood this is the weakness every salesperson exploits!) go for fixed teeth." In between I was thinking about the inconveniences removable denture causes and I agreed for the costlier option. Eye surgery After examining my eyes, the Ophthalmic Surgeon said : "You need to get your cataract removed quickly" I tried to explain that I had no problem with eye sight... Dr : "This is what many tell me before surgery. "I'm able to read and recognise people..." They don't notice the change which is gradual." I requested him to fix the earliest available date for surgery. G Lighter moments : Shared by S Shetty Mumbai Some hilarious quotes to lighten your mood..! During the pre-independence days, an Iyer and a Britisher were travelling by the Howrah Express train, from Madras to Calcutta. The train left Madras Central railway station at 8 p.m. sharp, and the next morning at 7 a.m., it was at Vijayawada. The Britisher had a sumptuous Spencer's breakfast, delivered to him by a butler, in livery. But the Iyer opened the top box of his 4-compartment, steel tiffin carrier, and ate two idlis with Chutney. Lunch at Waltair station (as Vishakapatnam was then called), was a heavy meal served to the Britisher, by the Railway Refreshment stall. But again the Iyer only opened the second box of his tiffin carrier, pulled out 4 idlis, with Chutney and ate them with relish. The Britisher was curious as to what was happening. But being a Britisher, he kept his stiff-upper-lip posture on. But when the scene repeated itself, for the third time during dinner at Berhampur, the Britisher could no longer contain himself, and enquired of the Iyer, "Sir, what are those white things you have been eating, all along at each meal?" The Iyer replied, "Sir, these are called intelligence tablets. We South Indians can live on them for days on end”. The Britisher : "But how do you make them?" The Iyer went into an elaborate description, of the raw materials and processes, of making idlis. The Britisher : "Can you please give me a couple of them to try now? But you need not give them to me free of charge. I'll be happy to pay you, whatever price you quote." The Iyer thought for a while, and said, "Actually, I have only three more of them left, for tomorrow morning's breakfast. But since I am going to my relative's place, I can spare them for you. But they will cost you 20 Indian Rupees each ". The Britisher paid up immediately, pleased that he was so lucky. The next morning, at the Howrah railway station in Calcutta, as they were about to part ways, the Britisher asked the Iyer, "But tell me sir, are you sure you have told me the entire process, without leaving out any details? ". The Iyer replied, "Yes, I have told you all the details". Britisher : "Then why were those intelligence tablets so costly?" The Iyer replied,"See?! You ate only 3 of them last night, and they have already started working?!" ENJOY YOUR INTELLIGENCE TABLETS TODAY!
