Friends
Last issue of Collage contained some link/s which was unacceptable @Face Book and therefore they didn't publish the post. As they didn't specify, I couldn't correct/edit. Mentioning for information.

I do not know about other languages. But I know that the oldest Tamizh language is far different from what Tamizh we speak or follow today. There is no comparison. Will any of us understand now if spoken or written in Sangam Tamizh or Valluvar Tamizh or Kambar Tamizh?

Is reading "Completing Vyasa's Mahabharata (67 Upakathas for the Modern Reader)"
https://amzn.eu/d/gjv7DFq
Embedded within the primary narrative of the Mahabharata lie numerous sub-tales known as upakhyaanas or upakathas. These lesser- known stories play a vital role in completing the grand tapestry of the Mahabharata, thus giving this book its apt title. Unlike verse translations found in unabridged versions, the 67 upakathas presented here serve a different purpose. While they may appear as diversions, these narratives serve as vital threads, connecting the text and offering answers to lingering questions that readers may have. For instance, why did Ambaa, the princess of Kaashi, become the catalyst for Bheeshmas demise in a later life? The Ambaa upakhyaana holds the answers. Similarly, the stories of Sage Parashuraama reveal why a brahmana like him possessed warrior-like qualities. Two upakhyaanas shed light on this enigma. Additionally, the Yayaati upakhyaana elucidates the reasons behind the Kurus descending from Puru, Yayaatis youngest son, rather than the eldest. Moreover, the intriguing dialogue between Duryodhana and Shalya, where Duryodhana persuades Shalya to become Karnas charioteer, is also explored in these Upakathas.

Remembering a politician who left a trail to follow :
Manoharbhai could not rest till he made a difference. He was a karma yogi. It is no accident that he worked till his last breath.
He has left an example of simplicity, dedication and walking the talk that will for long be the standard to distinguish leaders from politicians who represent partisan interests. May he find peace in leaving behind his actions as an example for others.

Collage Nostalgia : M G Warrier
20th Century grandparents
I've crossed over to 80 this year. This is the time to remember childhood. The 15 day break from gadgets and reading gave me idle time to remember the past. You are going to be the victims of the punishment I suffered post-cataract surgery. As always I am trying to talk about myself because I don't know much about others, or what is happening outside. Let me make a beginning today :
If the following link opens, that could be an introduction :
https://www.warriersblog.com/2022/09/nostalgia-my-childhood-days-inside.html?m=1
During the 7 years I stayed with my father inside the temple where he was the priest (Shantikkaran), every year my father, being the seniormost surviving member in his family, was performing the "shraddha" (Annual ritual performed to remember pre-deseased family members) for his 20 plus relatives including his parents.
He lost his mother almost immediately after his birth and his father during his childhood 🙏. A day before his death (He left us on July 10, 1979 while staying with me) also, my Dad repeated his life long regret that all his health issues were because he missed breast milk of his mother.
I've seen only one person from his previous generation in my father's family. That was his father's half-brother who is also my maternal grandfather who passed away during 1950's. I was a latecomer in my family and therefore I didn't see my parents' previous generation. To give an idea, my eldest cousin was 25 years older to me and my eldest sister's eldest daughter is 3 years younger to me.
From my mother's side, I have seen more members from my grandmother's generation. They include :
1) My grandmother's cousins (Krishna Warrier and Parvathy Varasiar) who stayed in Ayanchery.
2) One uncle (Sankara Warrier) who stayed in our ancestral home
3) My maternal grandparents and
4) One uncle (Krishna Warrier) who stayed with his family in Katameri
(To be continued)

GOA RADIO ORGANISED
COMPETITION FOR POEMS, IN WHICH
THE FIRST LINE MUST BE ROMANTIC,
BUT THE SECOND LINE SHOULD BE THE OPPOSITE.
This was the winning entry sent by Joao Caitan :
My darling, my lover, my beautiful wife,
Marrying you messed up my life.
I see your face when I am dreaming,
That's why I always wake up screaming.
Kind, intelligent, loving and hot;
This describes everything you are not.
I love your smile, your face and your eyes,
Damn, I'm good at telling lies!
My feelings for you, no words can tell,
Except for maybe 'Go to hell.'
What inspired courage for this amazing rhyme?
A bottle of Feni, little Salt n Lime !
