Visited my elder sister in Vatakara on August 21, 2026 and attended a family get-together(August 21-23) held in a resort near Kozhikode and we are back in Mumbai.
The four-days break from the routine was gainfully invested.
Today is Onam, being celebrated world over by Malayalees and their well-wishers.
In 21st century, festivals and rituals have a greater significance beyond their original purports. They bring like-minded people together. They cause family reunions. They promote local celebrations expanding opportunities for talented people.
Onam may be a harvest festival for some, for others it is an occasion to remember the story of Asura Raja Mahabali and his departure when Vamanavatara happened.
Bali sought and obtained permission to visit his Prajas once a year. Vamana gladly agreed and offered to accompany him and ensure safe and comfortable trip every year.
Happy Onam to you all.

The passage by Narayani Ganesh argues that constant multitasking and busyness leave people mentally drained, making them long for holidays to recharge. It suggests a simpler solution : take a five-minute break every day to do absolutely nothing.
