The quote “It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon not understanding it”(Upton Sinclair), is most apt to explain the present state of affairs of India’s ‘Think Tank’. Without elaborating, let me mention that it was a coincidence that the report I read just before reading this article was about the Apex Court regretting its inability to consider a PIL about prudential norms for release of government advertisements. The Hon’ble court expressed willingness to consider the PIL after the Elections 2014.
The BPL(Businessmen-Politician-Lawyers) combine which has been dominating India’s governance has successfully kept majority of the country’s population illiterate not only in the literal sense of literacy, but they have been kept in the dark about their real rights and duties also. If some changes are happening, that is also because of the greed and in-fight among the ruling class than the awakening of the masses. There is no other way to explain the pattern of asset accumulation, selective handling of corrupt practices and the government and even judiciary getting their priorities distorted.
The way out is restoring the dignity of ‘salary’ and regulating ‘commission’ relating it to value addition.
