To his amazement, the stone turned over at his touch, revealing the sacred Shiva Sutras etched upon its surface. These profound sutras, reserved for those deemed worthy of divine grace, unravel the mysteries of our true nature and the illusory existence we inhabit. Ranjit Chaudhri has translated some important texts of Kashmir Shaivism from Sanskrit into English. These include 112 Meditations for Self Realization: The Vigyan Bhairava Tantra, The Shiva Sutras: Eternal Wisdom for Life, and Sounds of Liberation: The Spanda Karikas. These days, for a change, I've allowed myself to stray away and enjoy the freedom of thought and expression. With that comes the freedom to select books and decide what to read and when. That's how the book "The Shiva Sutras" by Ranjit Choudhri is on my table. The book contains just 77 Sutras divided into 3 chapters. Sutras are simple expressions of thoughts about life. We need not dispute the origin or authorship of the aphorisms discussed. For convenience, we can focus on the content as we understand. For example, the first Sutra is "Chaitanyamatma" or "Self is consciousness" I exist when I'm conscious. When I'm asleep, dead or unconscious, though my body may still exist, I don't go through normal experiences.
