Hasty denials do not make the public wiser. RBI Deputy Governor Chakrabarty had done just that immediately on hearing about the sting operation. While initial denial to restore public confidence in the system might be justified, frequent denials even before enquiries are complete or reports are examined may not improve credibility. After all, it is not about procedural lapses alone.
