Friends
Happy Birthday to all readers having Birthday during the week ending Saturday April 26, 2025.
Social media sources are overflowing with advice and suggestions about how you should live your life ❤️.
I'm aware of the futility of adding to that by sharing links like the one below at A.
In a way, as I said recently, many of us keep our thoughts to ourselves 🙏. We need not research for text book solutions to all our problems.
But there is a need to interact and share.
We may not be able to follow scriptures the way earlier generations did. But, by sharing thoughts, some new doors may open.

The Hindu Frontline shared the above link with me. Hope this opens for you.
Remembered Nehru's three books I purchased during the same period :
1) Glimpses of World History
2) Discovery of India
And
3) Nehru's Autobiography
These were part of my personal library till last year when I parted with the major portion of my library.
Now thinking of reorganizing a small library with 100 books.

Try something different
No, I am not entering the maidan of cooking. And, I'm not fed up with anything on hand, not yet. No, this is not a piece of advice for the kids or the elders who are targets of WhatsApp University Professors. Without wasting more of your time, let me come to the subject.
This is self-talk. Advising myself. Then, why I'm sharing without tasting? Because I didn't get any other subject for completing my 200 words quota today.
"No, it's not my cup of tea", I have heard this umpteen times. Unless you try, how do you know? The hesitation to lose ground for the first time has prevented many from learning swimming.
Living a contented life with what you have doesn't mean one should not grow further. And growth is linked to change.
We can take a couple of lessons from plants and trees.
Amaranthus
The leaf vegetable which comes in different colours. Many of us prefer the red variety. This grows from seeds, smaller than mustard seeds. In the seed-bed, the first growth is with less than a centimetre distance between plants. Once three four leaves come up, they are shifted to larger area with 6 to 12 inches between plants.
Teak Plantation
Teak plant comes up from seeds in wild growth and planters develop new varieties with tissue culture.
First seedlings are planted close by, say at a distance of 2 to 3 feet between 2 plants. As the plants grow, in between trees are removed once or twice, finally leaving a distance of 10 plus feet between trees. Then they are allowed to grow to the optimum size.
We also go through such processes of replantation etc as part of our growth. Take my case :
1944 : I was born in my ancestral house situated in a village called Onchiyam in North Malabar.
After 3 months my family shifted to a rented house near my father's workplace, 8 km away.
7 years later we shifted back to our ancestral house where I stayed upto Class 4.
1952-59 Form Class 5 to SSLC, I stayed inside the temple where my father was working.
1959-63 College education staying in my ancestral house.
1963 : Started working.
1963-73 : Stayed in lodges. Mostly in single room, alone :

From 1973 : Family life
1973-77 : In rented houses
1977-86 : Own house in Thiruvananthapuram
1986 : Transfer to Mumbai
1986-99 : In different RBI Quarters located in Andheri, Goregaon and Dadar
1999 : Transfer to Nagpur
1999-2001 : Stayed in Madhuben Apartments, Dharampet
2001 : Transfer back to Mumbai
2001-03 : Stayed in Sun Palazzo, Lower Parel
2003 : Retirement from service.
2003 to 2025 : Stayed in Kerala, Bhandup Mumbai
Multiple locations I stayed which gave me opportunity to know many people who were from different geographies and background gave me exposure to different situations in life.

Good Friday Thoughts 2025
The Cross : A Powerful Symbol Of Forgiveness
Good Friday today.
Every Easter Season, we reinforce the memories of Jesus and remember his message.
The Times of India article (Speaking Tree, April 18, 2025) focus on the relevance of forgiveness in life. My view is :
We should forgive ourselves first. Yes, many of us carry a baggage of regrets and pains from the past, which are irrelevant today. Why not leave them in the first dustbin we see on the way? You will feel much lighter after that, even if you are overweight!
Revenge and forgiveness are two sides of the same coin.
Till my early seventies I was more revengeful in my thoughts.
In some cases I was waiting for an opportunity. Opportunities came. By that time I realised that my target individuals had become frail and weak and no strength left in them to accept the punishment.

Niti Aayog's role
This refers to the report "Niti Proposes Rs8k cr Support to promote Export of Tools" (ET, April 16). The transformation of Planning Commission to Niti Aayog and the changeover from an institution responsible for Five Year Plans to a proactive research wing of central government almost went unnoticed.
In public interest, it would be desirable to give Niti Aayog a more transparent and accountable responsibility to remain a watchdog of resources mobilisation and distribution across geographies. Such an assigned role will help Centre ward off to a limited extent the criticism from states about political bias in sharing of revenue. The suggestion is not about any change in the responsibilities of Finance Commissions. That institution will get one more tool or input from a national level body with research facilities.
