Welcome To Warrier's Friends' COLLAGE, October, 2026 Part I Friends Soorya Festival, Thiruvananthapuram The 49th edition of the Soorya Festival opened on October 1, 2026, in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, and will run for 111 days through January 21, 2027. No denying that Krishnamoorthy's departure will leave a void in Team Soorya. The new team which includes Krishnamoorthy's son has taken seriously the parting message of Soorya who has been running the show since 1977 and the organisation is in safe hands. Venue: Primarily hosted at Ganesham (Soorya Nataka Kalari) in Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, with events starting precisely at 6:45 PM. Participants: Over 2,000 artists from across India are featured. Opening Phase (Oct 1–10): Dedicated to classical dance and music, featuring performances by K.S. Harishankar, Meenakshi Srinivasan, Priyadarshini Govind, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, Asha Sarath, and Navya Nair. Themed Segments Oct 11–15: Panchratna Women’s Lecture and Women’s Film Festival. Oct 16–20: Choreography Festival. Oct 21–25: Jalsaghar Hindustani Chamber Concerts. Oct 26–31: Sindhubhairavi Carnatic Music Festival. Dec 1–20: Soorya Art Gate (exhibition of around 40 painters) and Short Film Festival (Dec 11–20] Jan 11–20, 2027: Indian Panorama Film Festival. Closing (Jan 21, 2027): Carnatic music jugalbandi by M. Jayachandran and Kavalam Sreekumar. This year's festival holds profound emotional weight as the first edition taking place following the September 2026 passing of its founder and cultural pioneer, Soorya Krishnamoorthy. Organizers committed to proceeding with the full schedule to honor his lifelong legacy. The festival is now being managed by a committee of around 15 members, with Krishnamurthy's son, Laxman Moorthi, as secretary. The Soorya Kiran volunteer group also assists with hosting the programmes and other festival work."

I had the good fortune of knowing him in his previous ashrama(his name was Jayachandra Panicker )as lecturer in psychology in Sree Narayana College, Kollam where I was studying for my degree in Physics. He used to come by passenger train from Varkala, the famous pilgrimage town where his guru Dr.Natarajan had set up an ashram. Simply attired in white dhoti and jubba with measured steps and alone, he would walk from the station to the college which was at the far end of a big maidan. One could never mistake his aloofness for hauteur. There was always a serene calmness on his face.
