Beginning of the last month of 2024 takes our thoughts forward to the immense possibilities in store in the coming new year 2025.
For me personally, the year is going to be particularly lucky. The numbers add up to 9 and I was born on 9th! Interpreting numbers is an art. You can always arrive at the number you love, once you decide. Even the numbers in my year of birth (1944) added up to 9.
Sharing some thoughts on making a new beginning.
Reshmy Warrier has shared her recent article on "hope".
Happy reading.
Let's move on preparing to welcome the New Year 2025 🎊
Best Wishes 🙏

A new beginning
Long since I captured sunrise by looking out in the morning. On Wednesday, November 27, 2024, the Sun was hesitantly looking up, ignoring the clouds around.
I've been ignoring sun, taking the fellow granted as one among the pedestrian crowd I cross when I go out in Mumbai.
Suddenly I realised that the sight of everyday sunrise I've been taking for granted was a luxury available to few. There may be a treasure deep below the ground I'm standing. That doesn't ensure enough change in my pocket for the morning tea.
Sun may continue with his routine of rising and setting. Unmindful of my travel plans or fluctuations in my fortunes.
It may be a mad thought. But let me go on record. Why not learn a lesson from the Sun? Keep rising in the morning, follow the given trajectory and leave the scene when the time comes. I'm sure, Sun is not free from burning issues. May be concerned, how long the stock will last, or what will happen if another piece breaks away declaring independence as another planet.
But at least apparently, such thoughts are not affecting its discipline.

Reshmy concluded the article thus :
"Signing off with the enigmatic poem by Emily Dickinson:
“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops – at all -
And sweetest – in the Gale – is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -
I’ve heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet – never – in Extremity,
It asked a crumb – of me."

Vacancies at the top
According to media reports, RBI governor Shaktikanta Das whose extended tenure ends on December 10, 2024 is likely to get an extension. The eleventh hour decisions on top level appointments do not augur well for continuity in policy formulation and decision making in organisations like RBI.
On November 8, 2016, when RBI's Central Board met in Delhi just before announcement of demonetisation of certain denominations of Indian currency, it was reported, there were several vacancies on the RBI Central Board.
While vacancies at lower levels affect work, vacancies at the top, adversely impact policy formulation and implementation.
Centre and state governments may consider having an institutional arrangement to monitor vacancies at various levels on an ongoing basis and to follow up their timely filling up.
