Welcome To Warrier's COLLAGE On Sunday, January 12, 2025 Good Morning Happy Birthday to all readers having Birthday this week. Nice Day M G Warrier A Amazon Book Review Tuesdays with Morrie : Reviewed by M G Warrier https://www.amazon.in/gp/aw/review/0751527378/R1N0G444AG55FN?ref_=cm_sw_r_mwn_dprv_QYDBWBGAT9QX6VKY145P&language=en-IN Excerpts : M G Warrier I crossed 80 last year. I'm a slow reader. I haven't reached reading page 150 of a 200 plus pages book in one week and "Tuesdays with Morrie" helped me post this record and I am celebrating the occasion. Again, usually I read last pages first, even while reading suspense thrillers. As my friend who recommended this Mitch Albom book had given me some idea about this book, I opted to read from page 1 to the last page without scanning pages in between. When I reached half way, I was getting uncomfortable about the story coming to an end. I started reading slower and slower. Why? To know that, better read this book yourself. Clue? Like Bhishma who had a boon to opt the time and date of his death (Ittcha Mrityu) and shared his worldly wisdom with his close associates ( e g He recited Vishnu Sahasranamam for the benefit of Dharmaputra), Professor Morrie was aware of his impending departure from this world and used the last few months to share his wisdom with his old students and associates. Mitch Albom calls this their last joint thesis! If Bhagavad Gita is the essence of Krishna's wisdom, in this book Mitch Albom has squeezed in the worldly wisdom of Professor Morrie(78) as briefly and in an acceptable language. This book is a must attend class I would recommend for all age groups, irrespective of their status. B Media Response Invest in Most Prized Capital* This refers to ET interview with Satya Nadella with focus on India's human capital and AI (January 9). The Microsoft Chief's observations drawing world attention to India's human capital deserve appropriate follow-up by all stakeholders. Mark Nadella's words : "Anyone who doesn't tap into India's human capital is making a choice to not be competitive". This adds considerable responsibility on the government and universities back in India. They have to ensure availability of talent in every sector, India will be tapped for recruitment. In addition to this, Government will have to negotiate with major countries which are potential recruiters to ensure hassle-free issue of employment Visas. M G WARRIER Mumbai *A slightly edited version was published in ET on January 10, 2025. C My adventures with publishing books My responses were being published in the media and that was good enough for me to find my name in print occasionally. I retired from service a little early and my responses in financial newspapers became more frequent. When I responded to his articles on subjects focused on RBI, I started sharing my responses with SS Tarapore who retired as Deputy Governor. As we were knowing each other, he started encouraging me to write articles on subjects of my interest in addition to publishing letters to the editor. Later on, Tarapore Saheb affectionately suggested that I should publish a book putting together all published articles. Actually he wrote the foreword for my first book, Banking, Reforms & Corruption (2014, Sampark, Kolkata). The book is now available in eBook format as "Chasing Inclusive Growth" (Notion Press, Chennai) : https://amzn.in/d/4kquFhk The following 10 years, I published three more books with the help of Notion Press and some more using the free publishing facilities of Kindle Direct Publishing. As the spacecraft discards extra payloads, the soul discards earthly containers. The ultimate stage for satellites is orbiting a celestial body. Likewise, the soul aims to merge with the divine by freeing itself from all containers.
