Warrier's Collage October 28, 2021
Welcome to Warrier's COLLAGE On Thursday October 28, 2021 Introduction to Bhagavad-Gita https://youtu.be/wkvm-D4RBMw Good Morning Thanks for all responses and contributions. Only randomly selected responses are included here. Why Bhagavad-Gita is being "introduced" again? "We have some new readers." Nice Day M G Warrier A A Poem* "Slow Dance by David L. Weatherford - Inspiring Poem" https://www.great-inspirational-quotes.com/slow-dance.html Excerpts : "Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round, or listened to rain slapping the ground? Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight, or gazed at the sun fading into the night? You better slow down, don't dance so fast, time is short, the music won't last. Do you run through each day on the fly, when you ask "How are you?", do you hear the reply?" I was busy from morning yesterday because I had called some professional (but unskilled) cleaning services for something called deep cleaning of the apartment. If I had not opened it I would have missed reading your friend E X Joseph's poem, TO JESUS. I liked the way he has presented the life and teachings of Jesus in a short but poetic and mystical style. 4) Kasthurirangan Narayanan Sri Chakra Raja reminds me Maharajapuram Santhanam*. (Maharajapuram Santhanam, was an Indian Carnatic music vocalist. He was awarded the Madras Music Academy's Sangeetha Kalanidhi in 1989. He was born in Sirunangur, a village in the state of Tamil Nadu. He followed the footsteps of his father Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer who was also a renowned Carnatic Vocalist .) *Here's a link to a Santhanam collection. A version of Srichakraraja comes at 6th position 🙏-Warrier C Spirituality/Faith 1) "On Doing Good to the World « Gems from Swami Vivekananda" http://www.ramakrishnamath.in/completeworks/?p=63 Excerpts : On Doing Good to the World We are asked: What good is your Religion to society? Society is made a test of truth. Now this is very illogical. Society is only a stage of growth through which we are passing. We might just as well judge the good or utility of a scientific discovery by its use to the baby. It is simply monstrous. If the social state were permanent, it would be the same as if the baby remained a baby. There can be no perfect man-baby; the words are a contradiction in terms, so there can be no perfect society. Man must and will grow out of such early stages. Society is good at a certain stage, but it cannot be our ideal; it is a constant flux. The present mercantile civilisation must die, with all its pretensions and humbug–all a kind of “Lord Mayor's Show”. What the world wants is thought-power through individuals. My Master used to say, “Why don't you help your own lotus flower to bloom? The bees will then come of themselves.” 2) Dr Charan Singh charan singh (@CharanSingh60) Tweeted: Unity in Diversity - 52 गुर कै सबदि मनु जीतिआ गति मुकति घरै महि पाइ हरि का नाम धिआईऐ सतसंगति मेलि मिलाइ गुरु अमरदास, सिरीराग Mind is conquered through Guru's guidance: Liberation attained sitting at home itself Meditate, enjoy holy company Amardass, 26 SGGS https://twitter.com/CharanSingh60/status/1453109592632610816?s=20 D Book on my table : M G Warrier Prabuddha Bharata, January 2021 Yesterday morning received this 316 Pages Special Issue priced Rs100/- by Speed Post (Publisher Advaita Ashrama, Kolkata charged just Rs51/-extra towards postage). At B1 is a link to the article "On Doing Good to the World", a lecture by Vivekananda delivered in America, published in the first issue of Prabuddha Bharata (July 1896). The name of the magazine Prabuddha Bharata was suggested by Vivekananda. Today I made a one year subscription (Rs200) for Prabuddha Bharata. We have a lot to learn from Advaita Ashrama and magazines like this. I wish some of my readers glance through such publications and those who are reading, share some quotes/thoughts with their contacts. That would be a service of much higher level, useful to the society in the long run. Will share my thoughts after reading the book on my table. E Society Mental Healthcare https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/readersblog/the-counselling-cove/mental-health-in-an-unequal-world-38537/ Excerpts : "We observe “World Mental Health Day” every year on 10th October with the intent of generating public awareness regarding the importance of mental health. This year the theme announced by World Mental Health Federation is – Mental Health in an Unequal World. All of us aspire to be healthy and fit. But, for most of us, fitness is only confined to the “physical” aspect of our health. We generally forget that our total wellbeing comprises mental wellness as well! When we feel “unwell”, we immediately seek a doctor’s advice to get timely treatment so that our symptoms do not worsen. But, when we feel emotional distress, we ignore the signs and stay in denial. The main reasons behind this is lack of awareness about the importance of mental health and the stigma and shame attached to addressing mental illness." Posted online comments : 'an excellent piece on a subject usually handled in the media casually. the article has covered some very important aspects of mental health and healthcare. i would like to add just one dimension which is relevant in the current situation. that\'s about the role of unattended stress and mental health issues, especially in children which leads to crimes of different denominations. i will avoid elaboration but what i have in mind is the kind of crimes which are these days being discussed for hours in the evening news. the need for considering the mental health angle or counseling seldom get a passing reference in such debates. keep writing on subjects of your interest including social issues like this.' F Leisure 1) Kali the Mother : Poem by Vivekananda "Kali the Mother by Swami Vivekananda" https://rkmdelhi.org/articles/kali-the-mother-by-swami-vivekananda/ Excerpts : "Dancing mad with joy, Come, Mother, come! For Terror is Thy name, Death is in Thy breath, And every shaking step Destroys a world for e’er. Thou “Time”, the All-Destroyer! Come, O Mother, come! Who dares misery love, And hug the form of Death, Dance in Destruction’s dance, To him the Mother comes." 2) Friendship costs* It was 3 O' clock in the morning when the wife opened her eyes, only to find four dacoits at her bedside taunting pistols. They tied her husband and locked the children in a room. After searching all the places, they recovered good amount of cash and jewellery. Then one of the dacoits asked, "Where is the 1.5 lakh worth iphone that your brother sent you from the US? And where is the necklace your husband gifted you for the wedding anniversary? Hand them over or else I will shoot you." The wife handed them over, out of fear. Then she asked "But brother, how do you know all these?" "Hey, we are your Facebook friends. We regularly read all your posts. Well, if you have any left over of the delicious pudding you made today morning, then serve that too." "Mutual Friends are subject to Market Risks."
