Milestones In Life

Welcome To Warrier's Friends' COLLAGE, October, 2026 Part III Friends My friend, philosopher and guide Shri P P Ramachandran (Ex-RBI, settled in Pune now) is celebrating Navathi today, on October 6, 2026. My grandson Vihaan shares Birthday with him. I wish Ayurarogyasaukhyam and everything best in life to PPR Sir & Vihaan. PPR & I became friends when he came to Thiruvananthapuram RBI on transfer from Mumbai during 1980's. His guidance helped me in a safe landing in Mumbai RBI when I was transferred to Mumbai in 1986. A brief writeup on Navathi and different age-related milestones in life is included at A below. M G Warrier A Navathi Navathi marks the 90th birthday and represents a sacred milestone of life in Indian tradition where the ego quietly dissolves into humility and grace. Indian culture marks specific age milestones not as a celebration of aging, but as sacred turning points of inner spiritual growth. These major milestones include: Key Age Milestones in Indian Tradition 60 – Shashti (Shashtipoorthi) : The mind shifts from accumulation to understanding, moving priorities from ambition to clarity. 70 – Sapthati : Bhimaratha Shanti: Peace becomes more valuable than winning arguments, and preserving relationships takes precedence over proving a point. 80 – Sathabhishekam : Presence becomes a healing blessing, offering deep reassurance to others that life works out. 90 – Navati (Navathi) : The ego retires, judgment fades, and a soft, spiritual stillness settles in as small things no longer demand energy. 100 – Shatamanam : Life transcends personal stories and the individual becomes a unifying presence of universal grace. B Shatabhishekam The 84th birthday is sometimes associated with Sathabhishekam (or celebrated alongside traditional milestone counts) because of how lunar and solar years are calculated in Vedic tradition, though Sathabhishekam strictly marks the milestone of seeing 1,000 full moons (around 80 to 81 years of age). Understanding Sathabhishekam The 1,000 Full Moons : Sathabhishekam translates to "100 baths or sights," but it is synonymous with Sahasra Chandra Darshan, meaning the completion of 1,000 full moons in a person's life. The Age Calculation : Mathematically, 1,000 full moons occur roughly 80 years and 8 to 10 months after birth. Because of this, it is traditionally celebrated towards the end of an individual's 80th year or entering their 81st year. Why the 84th Birthday is Connected Lunar Years vs. Solar Years : Some regional calendar traditions or specific astrological calculations factor in intercalary lunar months (Adhik Maas) differently or track completed lunar years, which can place the approximate completion of extended milestone counts closer to age 83 or 84. The 100th Lunar Year : An 84th solar birthday represents approximately 100 lunar years of life (since lunar years are shorter than solar years). In older times, reaching 84 was extremely rare and treated with the same high reverence and grand scale as a centenary celebration. C Celebrating ageing Celebrating old age means honoring the wisdom, experience, and vital contributions that older adults bring to our families and communities. Why We Celebrate Aging Gaining Wisdom : Older adults offer a deep perspective shaped by a lifetime of experiences. Freedom from Pressure : Aging often brings relief from the need to compete or impress, allowing people to be truly themselves. Building Legacy : Older individuals serve as the roots of the family, sharing stories and values with the next generation. Meaningful Ways to Honor Elders Spend Quality Time : Visit older family members or neighbors, share a meal, or listen to their life stories. Support Global Days : Recognize dedicated observances like the International Day of Older Persons held on October 1 or National Senior Citizens Day on August 21. Encourage Connection : Help older adults stay active, pursue favorite hobbies, and connect with friends or younger generations.
