India is no exception. But, in the initial years of free India, opposition was insignificant by numbers in legislative houses and were dependent on making their presence felt outside such forums. What we see today is the continuation of this tradition. Time is opportune for a rethinking and central and state governments after taking the opposition benches in legislative houses into confidence, should make in-house consultations more participative and meaningful, reducing the need for opposition to depend on media and public meetings for getting their voice heard.
