Warrier's Collage on Sunday July 21, 2024

Welcome To Warrier's COLLAGE On Sunday July 21, 2024 Good Morning Happy Birthday to all readers having Birthday during this week. Nice Day M G Warrier A Media Response July 19, 2024 Nationalization for improving productivity* This refers to the article "A case for tax waiver on savings" (The Hindu Business Line, July 19). Perhaps we are reaching a stage where the traditional dilemma of 'meeting both ends meet ' has started staring the Budget exercise both at Centre and states. July 19 is observed as Bank Nationalization Day in India. Nationalization helped banking system to consolidate, improve outreach and increase productivity, not just that of banks, but the economy in general. Time is opportune to think of nationalising unproductive idle assets in whatever form they exist and making them active and productive. Such assets in the Indian context include unaccounted domestic gold stock estimated at thousands of tons, real estate etc The proposal should be preceded by a transparent survey and accounting. This exercise will release funds perhaps adequate to cover future budget deficits. Give me the strength lightly to bear my joys and sorrows. Give me the strength to make my love fruitful in service. Give me the strength never to disown the poor or bend my knees before insolent might. Give me the strength to raise my mind high above daily trifles. And give me the strength to surrender my strength to thy will with love. In each class, the class teacher will coordinate the periodical “publication” of Class Magazine. The “Magazine” was a notebook in which articles, stories and poems by talented students will be artistically presented by the student whose handwriting and presentation skills were good. The Magazine used to remain in circulation for months and was read by scores of students and some teachers. I too got a chance to contribute to the magazine. For students, a higher level of publication was in a section dedicated for contribution from children in a popular Malayalam Weekly. I still remember when a Malayalam translation of a small Hindi story (from a text book) appeared in print in that section. After getting employed, during the initial trade union days, I got the opportunity to write slogans, notices and inputs for speeches by leaders. Next stage, in office, preparing briefs for bosses, drafting reports and inputs for participation in meetings also helped me to keep my thirst for writing live. Post-retirement, last 15 years, I became regular in responding to the media on current affairs and publishing articles. Since 2014, I have published some books also. E Evolution of Communication https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/readersblog/warriersviews/remain-connected-online-49403/ I remember the journey of the evolution of communication from the human messenger of the first half of last Century to the modern "Messenger" on your Smart Phone. Everything has changed. Let's rush through the developments. Messenger During 1950's, when my mother's uncle passed away in a village which is about 3 hours (not by car, the reference is to walking distance) away from our ancestral home where we were staying, one neighbour(from a particular community) of my uncle's family was sent to convey the sad news to us. When the messenger stands far away from the main house and identifies himself to a responsible member of the family, the purpose of his visit is understood and the family member gets confirmed "whose demise he was conveying and the time of death". My mother and I accompanied the messenger back to participate in the last rites of uncle. Letters From messages written on palm leaves and sent through messengers by Maharajas to printed communications sent by Speed Post with Post Cards, inland letters and aerograms in between, letter-writing had many Avtars. Telegram Fastest communication during an Era. In 1979, when my father passed away in Thiruvananthapuram one afternoon and the body was expected to reach a place 600km away next day, before boarding the Ambulance to accompany the body, I requested a friend to send 6 telegrams to communicate the sad news. 5 telegrams were delivered by forenoon next day in different locations in Malabar and all my 3 sisters could reach Payyanur for funeral, before we arrived with the body. Postal Department offered to refund One Rupee and Fifty Paise as they could not deliver one telegram to the addressee for some technical reasons. Smart Phone I don't have to dwell on the adventurous Smart Phone Era.
