WORLD STUDENTS' DAY 2024

Welcome To Warrier's COLLAGE On World Students' Day, 2024 Friends Today is World Students' Day. Collage is for students of all ages. I thank all readers of Collage for their kind patronage which keeps this experiment going. Today is my 80th Birthday. I started receiving greetings and blessings two or three days in advance 🙏 I'm humbled by your kind words of love and affection. Though it would have been more appropriate to include some of the greetings received, due to several constraints, I am copying below only one of them and my response thereto in this issue. First about World Students' Day. M G Warrier M 134 A World Students' Day https://www.business-standard.com/amp/world-news/world-students-day-2024-celebrating-apj-abdul-kalam-s-birth-anniversary-nc-124101400348_1.html October 15, Abdul Kalam's Birthday is observed as World Students' Day since 2010 : B Greetings* from Vathsala Jayaraman, Chennai Do you get inspired by famous journalists and the righteous persona they represent? Do you get amazed by Blog writers? Are you taken away by Free lancers? Do you get inspired by authors of texts? Are you wondering how a few people are capable of drawing others by their articles? How would you feel if you find "ALL IN ONE"? That is a rare admixture of those qualities that make them stand out of the crowd? From courage to honesty, integrity to determination, there are some essential qualities that they possess. They have A Way with Words. How do you distinguish between an average news story and an enthralling news piece? Effective writing skills can make all the difference. A writer should know how to play with words and should be able to produce an error-free, grammatically correct and concise article with factual information that would pique the interest of the audience. He relies on facts and evidence, not on emotions while working on a project. He should be observant and possess strong analytical skills to assess a situation if there is something more to it. Persistence and Discipline Ethics are Important Too. Accuracy and honesty should be more important while writing a new piece. From print to electronic, from newspapers to magazines, the profession of journalism requires some important personality traits and significant skills to succeed. Not to talk of Free Lancers. Self discipline, Financial awareness, GOOD time management and above all MOTIVATION, Flexibility and good NETWORKING Skills are a must for success. You can guess whom I am talking about. After opting for retirement from RBI in 2003, Shri M G Warrier has been responding in the print and electronic media on banking and social issues. Has published some books including "Banking, Reforms & Corruption" (2014, Sampark, Kolkatta) and "India's Decade of Reforms" (2018, Notion Press). Contributed articles regularly in the monthly Business and Finance Magazine "The Global ANALYST" (Published by ICFAI, Hyderabad) for a long time. His responses/articles in ECONOMIC TIMES, and HINDU BUSINESS LINE are noteworthy. His articles in WARRIER'S BLOG can be repeatedly read, admired, absorbed and assimilated. His COLLAGE published by the two forums is admired by one and all with treasures of articles by many stalwarts. It BLESSETH HIM THAT GIVES AND HIM THAT RECEIVES like the QUALITY OF MERCY OF SHAKESPEARE. Shri MG warrier is an asset to both the RBI Forums. We wish him a HAPPY BIRTH DAY ON 15TH October. MAY God bless him with long life, prosperity and peace of mind and his intellectual service to RBI groups and the entire community may flourish for many more years. VATHSALA JAYARAMAN *By email received in RBI Retirees Groups on October 13, 2024. My Response : Dear Vathsala Madam To respond to this, I believe it's easier to quote myself. Here's a link : https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/readersblog/warriersviews/in-praise-of-mutual-appreciation-46704/ The person who did the experiment in the above story is Vineet, son of my brother in law Suresh. Vineet is working in the US. For various personal reasons, I had mentally prepared myself this year to just say "Thank You 🙏" and observe silence on this subject. But you have woken up me. October 15 is my "official" Birthday. My friends will come to know about this because I have a Facebook account. Otherwise, I have two more Birthdays every year, August 9, the real DOB and another based on the star. Lest I forget once I start talking about myself, I will not thank you for the words of blessings and love showered by you, but will treasure them after sharing in the next edition of Collage. I would have loved to deserve all the praise. But the board left in the drawing room when daughter Reshmy shifted to an accommodation closer to her office, will remind us everyday that "Life Doesn't Have To Be PERFECT to be Wonderful!" I can't talk to you about life because your life is a text book I would recommend without hesitation for anyone who wants to understand how to face life's challenges 🙏 Affectionate Regards and Prayers 🙏 for your Ayurarogyasaukhyam M G Warrier Media Response Today Bank branch network This refers to ‘Why banks are branching furiously' (The Hindu Business Line, October 14). From the days of Lead Bank Scheme (with focus on priority sector and rural lending) and bank nationalisation, branch expansion/consolidation of branches happened for different purposes at different times in India.Time is opportune for a holistic approach to consolidation and expansion of commercial bank branches on a need-based basis. There may be a case for merger or closure of some branches in cities and towns while the big and small banks should be prepared to open more branches in semi-urban and rural areas, where the clientele may take more time to shift to digital banking. MG Warrier Mumbai *Published in The Hindu Business Line on October 15, 2024 C Collage Books Wings Of Fire An Autobiography https://amzn.in/d/eaTxSja Every common man who by his sheer grit and hard work achieves success should share his story with the rest for they may find inspiration and strength to go on, in his story. The 'Wings of Fire' is one such autobiography by visionary scientist Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, who from very humble beginnings rose to be the President of India. The book is full of insights, personal moments and life experiences of Dr. Kalam. It gives us an understanding on his journey of success. Dr. Kalam by narrating his life journey evokes the reader to identify with one’s inner fire and potential, for he was of the firm belief that each one of us was born with the strength and potential to make a tangible change in the world. How he inspired himself to achieve dreams and how he went about accomplishing so much is what the book captures nicely. The book recollects many anecdotes and stories from childhood, his time at school and college. The time spent at the Langley Research Center, NASA and Wallops Flight Facility gets a lot of attention. Personal tragedies have not been left out. The time when he lost his father and how he felt when conferred with many awards like the Padma Bhushan have been written in much detail. The second half of the book deals with Dr Kalam, the scientist who made a significant contribution in developing the countries guided missile program, a pioneering effort for the security of the nation. It's not without reason that he was nicknamed as the 'Missile Man of India'. The book also contains 24 photographs at various stages of his life. Authored by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and Mr. Arun Tiwari, the 180 page book 'The Wings of Fire' was first published in the year 2000. Mr Tiwari is a well-known missile scientist who has worked with Dr. Kalam. Having become a bestseller, the book has even been translated into thirteen languages, which includes Chinese and French. About the Author Dr APJ Abdul Kalam from 2002 to 2007 served as the 11th President of India. Greatly admired all over India, he was a scientist by profession, who played a leading role in developing the country's missile program. From humble roots in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Dr Kalam in an inspirational autobiography 'The Wings of Fire' traces the rise and the mark he made in life. Mr. Arun Tiwari, a scientist, was a colleague of Dr Kalam.
