Vidyarambham
Vidyarambham is a traditional Hindu initiation ceremony in South India (especially Kerala, Karnataka, and parts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh) where young children (typically ages 2 to 5) are formally introduced to the world of learning, literature, music, and the arts.
Meaning and Significance
Name Origin : Derived from Sanskrit words Vidya (knowledge) and Arambham (beginning).
Timing : Celebrated on Vijayadashami (the final, auspicious tenth day of Navaratri), which honors Goddess Saraswati, the deity of wisdom and knowledge.
Pooja Veypu : Books, musical instruments, and tools of trade are placed before Goddess Saraswati starting on Durgashtami/Mahanavami and kept undisturbed until Vijayadashami.
The Ritual Process
Seating : The child sits in the lap of a parent, grandparent, teacher (guru), or temple priest.
Tracing on Rice or Sand : An elder holds the child's index finger and guides it to trace the sacred invocation—commonly "Hari Shree Ganapathaye Namaha"—on a flat tray (Thalam) filled with raw rice, wheat, or sand.
Writing on the Tongue : In many traditions, the guru or elder also gently traces a sacred letter or mantra onto the child's tongue using a golden ring or pen to invoke clarity of speech and divine eloquence.
Guidance : Scholars, writers, or temple priests act as guides to help the child write their very first letters.

Ravan Dahan ( "burning of Ravana" )
Definition and Core Meaning
Literal translation : Ravan refers to the ten-headed demon king from the Hindu epic the Ramayana, and Dahan translates to "burning" or "incineration."
The Ritual : It is a major event during the festival of Dussehra (or Vijayadashami), where large, towering effigies of Ravana—along with his brother Kumbhakarna and son Meghnad—are set on fire with fireworks.
Symbolic Significance
Good over Evil : The burning symbolizes the triumph of Lord Rama (representing righteousness or dharma) over Ravana (representing evil, pride, and injustice).
Inner Transformation : According to teachings from the ISKON Temple Blog, it also serves as a personal reminder to destroy one's own inner vices, such as ego, anger, greed, and arrogance.
Cultural Consensus : Most users on discussions across platforms like Quora agree that Ravan Dahan is fundamentally an act representing the victory of light over darkness and the rejection of anti-social or unethical behavior.
