Friends Post-Covid period, or since 2023, I have not been regular in following developments in the financial sector and politics. I have found out other diversions for timepass. Today's message which carries one response on monetary policy and another on Modi is not the beginning of another journey. As I said before, nowadays, the subject and content of tomorrow's message are decided only today. They evolve from my thoughts while I start writing the message. In recent times, more than the change in policy rates the policy statement and the usual media interaction that follows are watched more for dissecting RBI Governor's cautious observations on future policy outlook. The architecture of the policy formulation mechanism in RBI has got decoupled from that of Federal Reserve in recent times. In the process of setting up MPC, without disturbing the statutory expectations from the central bank, GOI ensured that the deciding voice in monetary policy formulation will remain with government. This has almost silenced the 'Open Market' spars between RBI and GOI. Perhaps, stakeholders other than GOI can contribute more in monetary policy formulation by proactively responding to RBI's formal policy announcements. I had the good fortune of knowing him in his previous ashrama(his name was Jayachandra Panicker )as lecturer in psychology in Sree Narayana College, Kollam where I was studying for my degree in Physics. He used to come by passenger train from Varkala, the famous pilgrimage town where his guru Dr.Natarajan had set up an ashram. Simply attired in white dhoti and jubba with measured steps and alone, he would walk from the station to the college which was at the far end of a big maidan.
