In one comment here,
there is a suggestion that China’s growth claims should be subjected to an ‘MRI’
scan. It is a thought-provoking comment. Like Class X or Class XII students
comparing model exam marks, countries compare their economic health on the basis
of assessments made by experts. One wonders, if deductions are made for
unproductive assets(like weapons, unending space research, provisions for
luxury and so on), whether the net-worth(if one is more comfortable with the
words ‘Gross Domestic Product’, if comparisons are ‘net of borrowings-domestic
plus foreign- what will be the position?) of rich and powerful countries will
get the same ranking as they get now.
