Matters of States | Business Line

My VIEW:

The editorial has done
justice to the analysis by making a reference to all major players responsible
for taking reforms forward. But, our country’s unique features like legal and
emotional aspects in Centre-State relationships, geographical, political and
resources-related reasons for imbalance in economic development of states and
the more important constitutional reason viz. several areas of governance being
in the concurrent list need to be flagged and attended to at the highest level
of policy formulation.
Prime Minister Modi will
have to take personal initiative to bring together different stakeholders
together at a National Conference, to begin with, and evolve a consultative
mechanism across political parties, geographical regions and industrial groups
and workers’ organisations including that of farmers and trade unions. This
will require cooperation from the Opposition parties who will have to
discontinue the confrontation-stance in national interest.
