Welcome To Warrier's COLLAGE On MONDAY April 25, 2022 Malayattoor : Recitation by Rosepriya https://youtu.be/GNnA5uwftq0 Ambalappuzha Srikrishna Temple https://youtu.be/TC8gMany8zc Ampalapuzha Palpayasam https://youtu.be/fVbzmi1D34c Good Morning Collage is again getting bulky. Will return to normal size this week. To manage obesity, Collage had a Special Afternoon Edition yesterday. Nice Day M G Warrier M 134 A Messages/Responses 1) Jyothilakshmi Anil Kumar One doubt related to pronounciation of "g". This doubt is open to English scholars. Considering the rule that letter 'g' is pronounced as 'j' when it is followed by 'e', 'i' or 'y', how is the word "TARGET" actually pronounced ? The word just popped up in my head while reading the "g" rule. I know there are always 'exceptions to rules'. But why this word particularly hit me, is because there are few people, especially Mallus, who pronounce it as "TAR'J'ET"!! This sounds irritating, but after reading the 'g' rule, I now feel that I should make adjustment and allowance, and give the people who pronounce it that way a benefit of doubt. 2) S K Gupta Panchkula Thanks a lot for accommodating my letter (since published in HBL), under the media response segment of your Collage today. 3) Vathsala Jayaraman I am delighted to read the biography of Swathi Thirunaal, a great king, Vaaggeyakara and padmanabha Dasa, contributed by Shri Babusenan. The mini Ramayana, Ragamalika Bhavayami Raghuraman is still lingering in my years. Sad to know that he lived just for 33 years. In the last few years he turned to be too religious and even emptied the treasury at the feet of Lord Padmanabha. Neurologists who made post research have found out that this is a disorder of neuro system coming under epilepsy of a different kind. They quote the instances of many earlier kings who were stated to be too generous and having a too strong religious affinity. Even in the music world many international musicians had suffered like this. They might have got the disorder a bit later in life. There seems to be nothing to feel proud of being too generous or too religious. Better to consult neurologists early and get treated as the there are vast improvements in treating neurological disorders. 4) Media Response : M G Warrier April 24, 2022 Respect domestic gold stock The report "BRICS nations trim US Treasury holdings" (April 24) has a message for India. Similarly placed nations are eying gold as a better and reliable component in their forex reserves basket as compared to US Treasury holdings. If we manage a part of our domestic gold stock by mainstreaming and standardising, India can make up for the losses in economic growth suffered during the last two years. Time is running out and history will blame us, if we close our eyes to the unique position of having surface gold stock of over 25,000 tons awaiting accounting and mainstreaming and sell out PSUs and depend on external borrowing for resources. M G Warrier Mumbai 4) Mahesh Krishnan's message* I** am very worried, the country is in bad condition, it is going through a very critical situation... Go to the vehicle showroom, waiting is going on on on new models, customers have to wait for the vehicles for six months... There is no empty table in restaurants, there is a queue on many restaurants! Line is not breaking at liquor shops, there is no demand less than chicken leg in food. Shopping mall no parking space, so crowded... The models of many mobile companies are out of stock, Apple is getting out of stock as soon as it is launched... Even in the period of online shopping, there is no place to step foot in the markets in the evening even in the working day, conditions like jam arise everyday! The online shopping industry is on its boom... But people are telling that they have broken their back by increasing the prices of petrol. When the meaningless lights are on, the fan is on, the TV is on in my house then I don't feel bad, but when the electricity prices go up my conscience moves... When my kids sleep at sixteen degree centigrade with AC on blanket on I can't say anything but when the electricity rate goes up my mercury goes up... I don't mind when my geyser is on for 24 hours but the electricity rate goes up my itching goes up... When my maid or wife wastes cooking gas my tongue don't move but when gas prices go up my tongue gets scissors... I don't like switching off car engine at red light... I go by scooter to buy milk two lanes away from home. In weekends I drive ten twenty kilometers without any reason. But if petrol prices increase even one rupee then I feel chilly... I don't mind eating a dinner of two thousand for one night but parking fees of twenty fifty rupees sting me a lot... I can't spare a single rupee on shopping for ten thousand in the mall but I can't digest my food without negotiating with the green vegetable cart seller... I curse the government everyday for my salary revision but my BP increases when I hear the salary of my maid... My children don't listen to me no problem but if Prime Minister doesn't listen to my words, I abuse them in different types... I am an independent citizen of a free country... Yes, the government which is working rightly and honestly, I will change the government which is changing the country... But I am never wrong myself, I will not change myself, I will never... *Shared by T J Kurup. **Believe me, I'm not you. On the basis of an assessment of the current and evolving macroeconomic situation, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) at its meeting today (April 8, 2022) decided to: keep the policy repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) unchanged at 4.0 per cent. The marginal standing facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate remain unchanged at 4.25 per cent. The standing deposit facility (SDF) rate, which will now be the floor of the LAF corridor, will be at 3.75 per cent. The MPC also decided to remain accommodative while focusing on withdrawal of accommodation to ensure that inflation remains within the target going forward, while supporting growth. These decisions are in consonance with the objective of achieving the medium-term target for consumer price index (CPI) inflation of 4 per cent within a band of +/- 2 per cent, while supporting growth." C Life & Death https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/readersblog/herbinger/the-rainbow-in-the-bubble-42559/ Conclusion : "Atma (soul/spirit) is nothing but the oxygen and a man releases lastly. So after death what happens to our memories? Asked by one of my face book friends, the memories remains like magnetic memory of a hard disk and mind (which is actually brain) gets destroyed with the death of the brain. “Our dead are never dead to us, until we have forgotten them” – George Eliot." Bonus Ramcharitmanas* Extracted from an article by Pratap Bhanu Mehta carried by Indian Express. "Anyone who has ever genuinely immersed themselves in Ramcharitmanas will recognise the singular poignancy of one moment in the Sundarkand where Hanuman meets Sita. Until that point the story is hurtling towards disaster. Sita has been abducted. Ram is distraught and unsure of himself. But the moment Hanuman meets Sita is the point at which the epic turns; the confidence that order will be restored reappears. Hanuman drops Ram's ring from the tree. Sita experiences contradictory emotions : Joy at recognition of the ring; fear about what its presence might mean. (In Tulsidas's rendition : Harsha vishaad hridya akulani). Sita is thinking many things. Suddenly Hanuman's words of reassurance break out as he identifies himself. In all musical renditions, whether by Channulal Mishra or the underrated version by Mukesh, the gentle line “madhur vachana bole Hanumana (Hanuman spoke, his words like honey)", always stops you in your tracks. Its power is not just the simple poetry but the magical calm it produces, an almost irresistible effect that, for a moment at least, bathes you in gentle reassurance and bliss. "That moment is itself the deliverance from all worry, and from evil." *Received from V R Chittanandam Chennai D Books by M G Warrier : Ants and Honey Bees Ants and Honey Bees : Life's Perceptions and Reflections https://www.amazon.in/dp/B07D9SKZXV/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_P3W1MC2KFGSWR00ATJYK Description Life, for most of us, happens to be an unresolved puzzle. When life moves on, many stare at it and stand still. The stories in "Ants and Honey Bees" try to develop a commonsense approach which will help us to approach life with a comfortable level of courage and sense of humor. The title of the book happens to be one of the non-fiction essays in the book. The author feels ants have more common sense and willingness to contribute to the community and ensure better management of resources. Other essays are on use and abuse of social media, problems that technology brings with solutions and how optimism helps one in living a happier peaceful life. E Humanity survives because... Sharing and caring* A beautiful message on being self satisfied and not greedy for other people's share. (From a special Aunt) I was waiting at the bus stand to go to my hometown. The bus had not yet arrived at the bus stand. I was sitting there reading a book. Seeing me, a girl of about 10 years of age came to me and said, "Sir, please buy these pens, I will give you four pens for Rs.10. I am very hungry, I will get to eat something." There was a little boy with her too, maybe her brother. I said, "Well I don't need a pen." Her next question was very sweet, "Then how will we eat something?" I said, "I don't want a pen, but you will definitely eat something." I had two packets of biscuits in my bag. I took out both the packets, and handed one to each of them. But I was surprised beyond limit when she returned one packet and said, "Sir ji! One is enough, we will share it." I was utterly surprised to hear this! I said again, "It's okay, you keep both. It doesn't matter." That girl's reply shook me to my core, my soul. She said, "Then what will you eat?" In this world, where people earning crores or billions keep humanity aside and rob people wildly in the name of success, a hungry girl taught me the ultimate lesson of humanity. I said to myself, this is what soul-satisfied people look like... Don't take so much from someone out of greed that we eat their share as well..!! *Forward received from Gopi Kottoor 2) Write up received from Vathsala Jayaraman Perceptions differ My neighbour bought a new car a few months ago. With the brand new car, their family went for a long trip to South Tamil Nadu from Chennai. They stayed in the destination for a couple of days and they started back to Chennai. Within a few minutes of reaching the highway, a huge branch from the tree fell down on the bonnet of the car. The front part of the car was completely damaged. The glass in all the windows and windshield were broken. Very luckily the family was safe (including the two kids). Not even a small scratch. The car was new, but it was thoroughly damaged. As soon as I heard the news, I felt that the new car was very unlucky for them. The car was insured and they were ready to give my neighbors a new car. I thought my neighbor would agree to give back the unlucky damaged car and get a brand new one. But my neighbour said this, “Why do you consider my car as unlucky. It is a lucky car. It took the danger which came to us and saved our lives. If we are alive, it’s only because of this car. I do not want another car. Just get this car repaired.” Vathsala Jayaraman 3) Received from Sabu Abraham via WhatsApp JOY OF GIVING BACK* There was a breakfast point near our college campus (28 years ago) We often used to go there for breakfast & there was a lot of rush. Many times I had noticed that a person came and took advantage of the crowd & after eating, secretly leaves without paying. One day while he was eating, I secretly informed the owner of the breakfast point that this person would take advantage of the rush and leave without paying the bill. Listening to me, the owner of the breakfast point started smiling and said to let him go without saying anything to him .. & that we will talk about it later. As usual, this person , after having breakfast, looked around and taking advantage of the crowd quietly slipped away. After he left, I now asked the owner of the breakfast point to tell me why he had let the man go .. why did he ignore this man's action ??? The answer given by the owner of the breakfast point lit up all my senses & I still remember this after many years. (I visited this place 3 years back again - Totally changed ) He told me that you are not alone, many others have noted him and have told me about him. He said that this person sat in front of the shop and when he saw that it is crowded, he would sneak in and eat. I always ignored it and never stopped him .. never caught him nor ever tried to disrespect him. Because I think that the rush in my shop is due to the prayer of this person .... He would be sitting in front of my shop , praying that if there is a rush in this shop then he could quickly go in, eat & leave...... And surely enough there is always a rush when he comes in & his prayers are powerful. I do not want to invite my misfortune by cutting my own leg in the matter of this prayer and acceptance of his prayer between him and Almighty ....... This will always be ignored by me and I will always let him eat food & will never disrespect him by catching him!!! Prayers make everything possible & who knows we are flourishing in our life due to Prayers of many known/unknown ones around us. *Keep giving back to Universe in your own unique ways F Leisure Fear of the Lord* John was a very dull boy. His peers called him "Father of fools". When he was in a Private school he got the following results: Maths = 2% English = 5% Science = 0% Social Sciences = 1% He was taken to a government school and got the following results: Maths = 0% English = 1% Science = 0% Social Sciences = 0% His parents were very disappointed but still decided to put him in a Christian school even though they were not Christians. The First term John passed and was the first in the class. Maths = 90% English = 93% Science = 95% Social Sciences = 89% His parents could not believe it. They asked him how he managed to pass and he said; "When I saw a man nailed on the cross at every corner of the school building, I knew that these teachers don't joke with students here, they will nail me too if I fail".
