Russell & God
Thank you for taking the debate further.
While marxism advocates separation of religion from State, it at the same time actively interferes in religion or religious institutions. Its bias for or against particular religions is dictated more by shameful political compulsions than logical or ethical considerations. The Kerala Government does not have any compunction in appointing members on the Trusts that manage temples, in using temple funds for government expenses, etc.

C V Kunjiraman was undoubtedly the topmost prose writer in Malayalam of the last century. How lucid and brilliant was his prose! He used to write poetry too but stopped trying his hands in that sublime sector, according to him, on Kumaran Asan's arrival on the scene. He is remembered not only as a writer but as the founder of 'The Kerala Kaumudi' in1911, still one of the most popular Malayalam newspapers.

Let there be a voluntary society in which there is no concept of God.
Sree Ramachandra Mission is one such initiative, I think. I understand that there is no worship

SRCM Ashrams are places for rejuvenation and retreat. An ashram is a place where you can remove yourself from the world and go deeply into your practice. SRCM has ashrams in Europe, North America, Africa, Oceania and South East Asia as well as many in India.
The World Headquarters of SRCM is at the Babuji Memorial Ashram, Chennai, India.
(I would prefer freedom of individual choice. By and large, as regards practice of religion or atheism, such a choice is available in India-Warrier)

CVS has some independent and unique views. Such an observation must be there before it’s reference here in the past too faced by religion and society. Hinduism which believes in god in form or formless must have come across such questions on relevance of god with all the features and qualities attributed. The reality is that Hinduism continues and temples are rebuilt and also retrieved. It is rather a subject where there can be endless debates and on ground all traditions and fights therein continues with acceptance by society.
In TN certain reforms are in place to retrieve the temple assets encroached by some people and perhaps the usufructs of these with Dravida goals may be used for economic development ….?
A very good analysis on the subject of God by Shri CVS, very interesting to analyse and agree with him and with a belief that traditions of religion and god may not change for centuries to come with their strong hold on humanity.

The problem is God has never presented Himself in person.
He always sends someone to represent Him. At least that is the belief. The theory of creation is still a mystery. So is God. The more we try to analyze it, the more complex it becomes.
We always look for shortcuts and paths of least resistance. God or no God, how does it matter?
Communist Russia and China did do away with God.
Have they overcome inequality? No. Hindus, Muslims, and Christians are God-fearing as a majority, still have they achieved equality? No.
Vathsala Jayaraman
(God is neither a problem nor a solution. The concept is an interim relief from confusion for those who suffer for different reasons and for those who need a support system while trying to realise the purpose of life 🙏-Warrier)

An informative and scholarly edition of Collage on Friday. Sitting in Delhi, the sea shore looks alluring. The article on OM is praiseworthy, first time came to know the deeper meaning attached to OM. I have saved it in my permanent folder. Glad to know that it was the divine intervention which saved Shri M T Vasudevan Nair, otherwise he would have died at the embryo stage itself.
The significance of 108 by Ms Vathsala Jayaraman is another significant article in the Collage.
Thanks for that.

Friendship : F R Misquith
Today has come to an end,
Every day someone we should befriend,
With anyone don't act like a fiend,
With one and all try to mix and blend,
With those who are sick one should lovingly tend,
At a friend' funeral tis better to attend,
In times of sorrow one's heart with pain 'll rend,
When attacked with all our might one should oneself defend,
Once in while to a close friend some greeting's send,
From anyone neither beg, borrow or lend,
But only the good Lord is our best friend,
Let's cling onto Him till the very end.

Sales talk

A Waterfront cum Underwater property
A realty salesman had just closed his first deal, only to discover that the piece of land he had sold was completely under water.
“That customer's going to come back here pretty mad,” he said to his boss. “Should I give him his money back?”
“Money back?” roared the boss. “What kind of salesman are you? Get out there and sell him a houseboat.”

Is the concept of God valid? That is the basic question. If the concept of God is fallacious, there is no place for religions in their diverse forms and subdivisions. All the moneys spent on religions and religious activities are then used, hopefully, for human welfare. Will not world be a better place to live for
millions who today starve every day? Of course, there are today thousands of places of worship which offer free food to people, free education, free medical aid, etc. But all this is partly done under duress of the beneficiaries joining their religion. Such a compulsion would cease to exist if religion were not to exist. For religion not to exist, the concept of God has to cease to exist. There is as yet no proof of God existing either. Nor not existing.
If religions did not exist, there would be a seachange in the constitution of nations around the world : No Islamic State, no Christian nations, no Hindu Rashtra, no State religion. Instead of constructing a place of worship, you construct a school, college, hospital, a charitable trust. Instead of celebrating a religious festival, you celebrate the advent of new seasons. Nature invites you to celebrate its changing seasons.
What is our theory of Karma? If I did some good work, I shall reap the good result. As we sow, so do we reap. If we made a mistake, we end up in a mess. Simple. God, if He ever existed, cannot deny us the benefit of our good work, He cannot undo our wrong. Krishna Himself took the curse from Gaandhaari. His end came as the result. He also could not avoid it. He could not avert the Maha War. Did He not know that his peace mission to Duryodhana would end in a fiasco? Yet, we all pray unto Him to remove our ills instead of ourselves trying to find means of ending our sufferings! Sudaama had to go to Krishna and make the latter understand Sudaama's chill penury. He had to strive for it. Had he remained without that initiative, he would have suffered that penury throughout his life.
If God is an illusion in human imagination, He would never appear before us. If He did exist, He should exhibit Himself before us and cannot be so unkind as to keep millions of lives in perpetual misery. If He disputes the theory of Karma, He should tell us how and why.

Like Sahodaran Ayyappan, a famous social reformer and thinker, CV(he was affectionately called so) was a rationalist without faith in God but much liked by the saint Sree Narayana Guru whose motto was:'For man, one caste, one religion, one God. 'Ayyappan all along maintained that man has no need for caste, religion and God. He and CV were the two persons with whom Guru discussed issues on almost equal terms.
Once Ayyappan came to CV's house unexpectedly. He was told that CV was in the prayer room. He was shocked. On coming out from the prayer room, CV said with a smile: "Ayyappan, both of us say that there is no God. After all, it is only a belief. Suppose he is there and he summons me to his presence on my death, will I not be embarrassed?"
In 1962, Russell completed 90 years of his fruitful life. In the small birthday party, one lady asked him : "Lord Russell, you have always been holding the view that there is no God. But, when you find that He is actually there, what will be your reaction?"
Russell smiled and said : "I will ask him why he has not given us enough proof for his existence*. "
Russell died in1970. We do not know whether he asked this question. If he had, and God obliged him, I am wondering : Wouldn't we have missed a beautiful discussion about His existence in today's Collage?
(*Actually I didn't have a problem with God 🙏 and religious rituals at any point of time in my life so far. Perhaps Russell has influenced my thoughts. So has Shankaracharya and the Bible. I've not yet read Quran. But I had and have many Muslim friends who are excellent human beings. They include late Prof K B M Hussain and his brother neuro surgeon and social activist Dr Eqbal. In a lighter vein, do we try to understand magic, a mentalist's performance or details of a surgery? Then, why not we leave God, and those who depend on Him for survival, alone? -Warrier)
