The narration of a true life story by a flight attendant of an American Delta flight about the unscheduled landing of the flight at the Canadian airport Ganden, on the ill-fated day of 9/11 is spellbinding. Today I had a hesitation to read anything in the morning as in the previous night I felt slightly dizzy before going to bed and when I tested sugar it was very high. But in the morning when I read the first three paragraphs of the amazing story I couldn't stop reading it till the end. The number of people who made their emergency landing at the Ganden airport on that day outnumbered the population of the city. For more than forty-eighth hours the entire city came forward to assist the stranded passengers, almost serving one to one, for all their needs. A perfect example to show how humanity exists in the world along with all turmoils. All of us must have experienced at least once in our life, being stranded at an unknown place for an unspecifc time, wanting some one to come forward and assist us. I have come across more than a couple of times being stranded helplessly, sometimes alone sometimes with family, as I like travelling. Once, during 1980s, we were traveling from Thirunelveli to Mumbai by train and due to narrow gauge broad gauge problem there was a need to change train from Chennai for onward journey. When we reached Chennai it was raining very heavily and the news was that all trains were cancelled from Central station indefinitely as tracks were flooded or washed away at several places in AP and Maharashtra. We didn't know what to do. Those days we didn't carry enough money for emergency nor had the credit card facilities. I only remembered that one relative stayed in Thandayarpet in Chennai near Ahasthia theatre and had a tailoring shop. With this basic information we could reach his house. But we were seven and my relatives family had six members. They were staying in a single room tile roofed rented house with separate kitchen. It was an enclosure of about six similar houses where families were staying on rent. The entire cluster of six families came to our help to provide accommodation for my parents and for the needs of two kids and for all our needs like toilet and water which was scarce at that time, and to sleep at night. It took almost a week for normal service to resume and getting tickets reserved for onward journey. But the seven days stay with strangers left an everlasting memory in our minds. R Jayakumar B Collage Profile : By M G Warrier V T Panchapagesan Chennai Reserve Bank of India Family has more than one Panchapagesans. When V T Panchapagesan became a regular presence here, some readers used to make "discreet" enquiries to know whether this is the person with whom they worked. I used to give them the details I knew. Yesterday, when Panchapagesan Sir mentioned that "Warrier is special to me", more people including some of my close relatives started asking : "Panchapagesan, who?" Let me try to introduce. Panchapagesan, Ex-RBI, celebrated his 90th Birthday on January 2, 2020. Now settled in Chennai, he has done substantial studies in Spirituality/Philosophy/Religion and human psychology among other subjects. He shares his deep insight with like-minded people. I have not worked with him. I respect him for the love and affection and blessings he has been showering on me, beyond his regular contributions to COLLAGE which benefit all of us.🙏-Warrier Satsangam with Panchapagesan I would like to share my views once a week instead of writing daily on a subject which will be beneficial to all. The idea is that we are all fairly aged and our pattern of living has to be fairly useful to others sharing our experiences with positive outlook. Psychologists opine that human brain grasps when they are in threes... We discussed about three Da. which we have learnt.... Dharmam. Dayai. Damah.... Be Charitable, Be compassionate . Be self- controlled... A list of threes is given for study towards gaining a higher plane of thought..... Thought Words. Deeds Work. Wealth. Wisdom Time. Cause. Causation Body. Mind. Intellect Earth. Moon. Sun Tamas. Rajas. Satvic Structure. Metabolism. Movement Brahma. Vishnu. Shiva Service. Sincere. Self-controlled Satyam. Shivam. Sundaram Kriya. Ichcha. GnAna Generator. Operator. Destroyer You. Me. He Past. Present. Future Creator created Creation with good intention only.. Otherwise He is not a CREATOR.. We are all a Spark, an iota in atom of the Supreme force ... We perform through Gross Body, and with feelings through Subtle Body With Gross intellect , for Survival and realization through Subtle intellect... AHAM BRAHMOSMI... I AM DIVINE.. However having born in this mundane world we have to perform an action for our survival. Again three types of action are: Action performed without desires which means Godliness..in action. Action performed with unselfish desires which means Realized Soul. Action performed with selfish desires which means very limited without interacting with the world for gaining/living for selfish means only.... As a result everyone of us has been evaluated in the end for our performance... Below average, above average, good etc ..... This individual performance is assessed by the unknown without any attachment.. The soul with the tag attached of each individual is duly monitored and every individual has to undergo reoriented in the form of periodical birth.. Till it merges with the supreme.......... Prayer which has to be self oriented surrender to the Lord, will determine the intensity of our rebirth... This theory of Karma goes on and on till it merges with cosmic supreme.........🙏 V T Panchapagesan (Many Thanks. Weekly or occasional contributions are welcome. Please do not strain yourself. The answer, as experts were saying earlier, lies in major gains for Mint Road from trading in bonds and foreign currency -- outsized profits that helped overshadow tepid investment returns. In its annual report for the year ended March , the first for the RBI that had aligned its calendar with that of the Finance Ministry in the past fiscal, the central bank also said that it would explore the option of diversifying its asset base beyond traditional investments -- bullion and the US dollar. Three major factors have contributed to a higher surplus in the year that saw a 37% dip in interest income for the banker of last resort. First, the profits on sale and redemption of rupee securities quadrupled to Rs.5194 crore due to higher sales. Second, profits from the sale of foreign currency amounted to Rs.50629 crore, up 69%. Non-interest income, which also includes profits from other activities, rose 9% to Rs.64215 crore. Besides provision towards contingency fund too were 75% lesser which fell from Rs.73615 crore to Rs. 20710 crore. While its income slid 11% , expenditure plunged 63% , helping the RBI to pay a 73% higher dividend that exceeded estimates of both Dalal Street - and the Budget. The year 2020-21 is significant for the change in the accounting year of the RBI to April- March from July June . As a result, the accounting year 2020-21 was of nine months -- from July 2020 - March 2021. Total employee costs for the year decreased 46% to Rs 4788.03 crore, mainly due to the net impact of the decrease in the Reserve Bank's expenditure toward accrued liabilities of various superannuation funds and the reduction in the accounting period. The department of external investment operations, which manages the country's foreign exchange reserves, has in its agenda for 2021 -22 to continue to explore new asset classes and jurisdiction markets for deployment of foreign currency assets, the annual report said. Research indicates that the structural low yield environment is expected to persist for a considerable time in the future. Reserve managers, therefore, face the challenge of looking beyond traditional approaches to managing reserves to maintain and augment returns. Subject to safety, they can also explore increasing portfolio duration, diversifying into new asset classes, currencies and markets, relaxing credit quality norms, and active management of gold stocks. *Forward received from VNKelkar (Year on year comparison is fallacious as the Accounting Year 2020-21 had only 9 months 🙏-Warrier) E Scientific Temper Developing a scientific temper: https://thg.page.link/CV7bAFjwLd5RKC9r6 "Science is not something that is happening in labs somewhere out there, science is everything we do from the moment we wake up. It is keeping us alive and believing in it might be one step closer to getting in touch with our subconscious. As much as not sneezing before you go out is harmless, believing that COVID-19 is a myth is life-threatening. We as individuals have a responsibility. We need to fact-check before pressing that little arrow next to a post. We need to question our beliefs. Not for us, but for everyone. As Marie Curie, the first person to win two Nobel Prizes, said, “You can’t hope to create a better world without improving the individuals. To that end, each of us must work for our own improvement...” F Leisure : 1) "Don't we all?"* ”DON'T WE ALL?" I parked in front of the mall sitting inside my car waiting for my son to get few items from the supermarket. Coming my way from across the parking lot was what the society would consider a tramp. From his looks, he had no car, no home, no clean clothes, and no money. There are times when you feel generous but there are other times that you are just not in the mood and don't want to be bothered. This was one of those "don't want to be bothered times." "I hope he doesn't ask me for any money," I thought. He didn't. He came and sat on the curb nearby but he didn't look like he could have enough money to even get a good meal. After a few minutes, he spoke. "That's a very nice car,you got there" he said. He was ragged but he had an air of dignity around him. I said, "thanks," and continued listening to the car radio. He sat there quietly, and the expected plea for money never came. As the silence between us widened something inside me said, "ask him if he needs any help." I was sure that he would say "yes" but I held true to the inner voice. "Do you need any help?" I asked. He answered in three simple but profound words that I shall never forget. We often look for wisdom in great men and women and we expect it from those of higher learning and accomplishments. I expected nothing but an outstretched grimmy hands. He spoke the three words that shook me. "Don't we all?" he said. I was feeling high and mighty, successful and important, until those three words hit me like a twelve gauge shotgun. "Don't we all?" I needed help. Maybe not for bus fare or a place to sleep, but I needed help. I reached in my wallet and gave him not only enough for bus fare, but enough to get a warm meal and few other things for the day. Those three little words still ring in my ears till today. No matter how much you have, no matter how much you have accomplished, you need help too. No matter how little you have, no matter how loaded you are with problems, you can give help. Even if it's just a compliment, you can give that. You never know when you may see someone that appears to have it all. They are waiting on you to give them what they don't have - -A different perspective on life, -a glimpse at something beautiful, -a respite from daily chaos, that only you through a torn world can see. Maybe the man was just a homeless stranger wandering the streets. Maybe he was more than that. Maybe he was sent by a power that is great and wise, to minister to a soul too comfortable in themselves. Maybe God looked down, called an Angel, dressed him like a tramp, then said, "go minister to that man inside the car, that man needs help." "DON'T WE ALL?" Help somebody, you are only a custodian of whatever you possess. MY VIEW “Let’s spend this lockdown period to reflect on life’s true meaning. We come, we go; the in between defines who we truly are. Remain blessed. *Received from Dr T V Surendran Mananthavady 2) Corporate Language* Corporate Language !! "We will do it." means "You will do it." Suddenly the daily donation changes to Rs. 75. "Well," the beggar thinks, "it's still better than nothing." A year passes in this way until the man's daily donation suddenly becomes Rs. 50. "What's going on now?" the beggar asks his donor. "First you give me Rs. 100 every day, then Rs. 75 and now only Rs. 50. What's the problem?" "Well," the man says, "last year my eldest son went to university. It's very expensive, so I had to cut costs. This year my daughter also went to university, so I had to cut my expenses even further." "And how many children do you have?" the beggar asks. "Four," the man replies. "Well," says the beggar, "I hope you don't plan to educate them all at my expense." *Forward received from S Thyagarajan (I'm not surprised.
