Until recently Collage was a daily feast. The eminent contributors to it added a great value to its content, enriched us and gave a satisfying experience. With your announcement of closure of Collage, I am reminded of a saying, 'Everthing happens for a reason' and the phrase 'Everthing that has a beginning must have an end'. Look forward to your considered views on current topics through regular mails. Regards. VNKelkar Many Thanks. Sure. My monologues and interaction will find expression in some form somewhere. Much more remaining unsaid Regards -Warrier 2) Sitendra Kumar Dear Shri Warrier, Wonderful Collage. That district had been converted into a nice ‘tourist village’ in Kerala, by developing half a dozen spots including Pookode Lake, Edakkal Caves and Kuruva Dweep with international-standard cleanliness and facilities. When we visited Singapore ten years earlier, I had wondered why India, which has several resource-rich geographical areas with tourist attractions much better compared to what Singapore packaged and served us, was not taking advantage of the rich tourism resources. What we saw in Wayanad convinced me that just one District Collector with government support can do wonders in the tourism sector." Media Response March 2, 2023 Invite tourists to India This refers to the well researched article "How to attract more international tourists" (The Hindu Business Line, March 2). My eyes got stuck at the sentence ending "... while domestic tourist arrivals increased comparatively at a better rate from around 6 crore to approximately 232 crore during 1990-2019". This took me to my own observation in an article on tourism published in The Hindu eight years ago. I quote : "That reminds me of our Wayanad tour of 2013. That district had been converted into a nice ‘tourist village' in Kerala, by developing half a dozen spots including Pookode Lake, Edakkal Caves and Kuruva Dweep with international-standard cleanliness and facilities. When we visited Singapore ten years earlier, I had wondered why India, which has several resource-rich geographical areas with tourist attractions, much better compared to what Singapore packaged and served us, was not taking advantage of the rich tourism resources. What we saw in Wayanad convinced me that just one District Collector with government support can do wonders in the tourism sector." India has moved fast in tourism. Many individuals like the Wayanad Collector and several corporates and organisations in public and private sectors, have played their part well. Still, to catch up with the rest of the world, we have to fast forward the pace of our tourism industry's progress by improving linkages and focusing more on modern marketing techniques. We are close to a breakthrough. Time is opportune. Blueprint is hidden in the article. M G Warrier Mumbai D Panchapagesan's Column on Sunday WEEKLY MESSAGE TO COLLAGE PLEASE RESPOND Lie Vs LIAR An 83-year-old elderly woman, lying on the bed, said to her 87-year-old elderly husband : "Listen.....I just looked out the window and thought the garage light was on. Will you go and turn off the garage light ?" The old man got up from the bed with great difficulty, opened a window and saw five or six thieves trying to break into his garage door. The elder called the nearest police station from there: "Look......write my address. We're the only two elderly husband and wife at home. Right now five or six burglars are breaking into our garage door. Send a police team quickly." From the other side came the dispatcher's voice : "We've written your address. We don't have any free teams right now. As soon as we get in touch with a team, I'll send them to your home." Hearing this, the elders were disappointed but on the other hand, thieves were still engaged in breaking the lock of the garage. Two minutes later, the elder again called the police station: "Listen.....there's no need to send anyone now. I've shot all five thieves." There was panic on the other side of the line. Within five minutes, a police team, along with a helicopter, a paramedic, three doctors and two ambulances, reached the old man's house. The 5 thieves were soon overpowered and arrested. Later the in-charge of the police team reached the elder and said: "You said that you shot those five thieves, but we caught them alive ?" The old man replied: "And you also said that none of your teams were free." Don't underestimate Senior Citizens ! PLEASE RESPOND WHO IS BETTER OF THE TWO….as we grow we learn to be wise….. V T Panchapagesan Note : Someone told me this is a repeat. Always remember : The rule "Lie repeated several times looks like a truth" applies to good stories also Regards 😃 -Warrier E Proud of Indian Institutions Proud of Indian Institutions This refers to the report 'A weak-kneed person cannot be appointed as EC' (The Hindu Business Line, March 3). India is safe in the hands of the strong and vibrant institutions our Constitution helped to establish and evolve. The Supreme Court, Election Commission, CAG and RBI have risen to the occasion and acted decisively whenever internal and external threats sent out disturbing signals. That's story so far. The observations of the Apex Court that "Political parties betray a special interest in not forthcoming with a law..." have wider implementations than those confined to appointment of the Election Commission. There's a dilution in the seriousness with which legislative process happen from the Rajya Sabha (Upper House) to gram panchayats. Reasons may vary from case to case. But restoring public trust in governance need to become a national priority and Justice Joseph in this pronouncement has not minced words in saying that. Incidentally, the present Supreme Court Chief Justice Chandrachud is getting a longer tenure compared to some of his recent predecessors and time is opportune to bring reforms to ensure continuity and a stable tenure for top positions in statutory bodies. M G Warrier Mumbai F Leisure I Believers & Non-Believers* Believers Never believe in their belief.. Non Believers Ever believe in the believe... A Bar Opened Opposite a Church!!! The Church Prayed Daily against the bar business. Days later the bar was struck by lightning & caught fire which destroyed it. Bar Owner Sued the Church Authorities for the cause of its destruction, as it was an action because of their Prayer. The Church Denied all Responsibility!!! So, the judge commented : "It's Difficult to Decide the Case because here we have a Bar Owner Who Believes in the Power of Prayer & an Entire Church that Doesn't Believe in it. Case adjourned" *Shared by S Thyagarajan II Collage of colours https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/readersblog/warriersviews/collage-of-colours-51127/ Collage of colours M G Warrier Bells are ringing, Curtains slowly move to the sides. Prayers 🙏 H Closing Bells for Collage Excerpts from Collage dated March 1, 2023 : Having completed its purpose, the present "Avatar" of Warrier's Collage will have its last regular issue on March 8, 2023. There will be a 'residual issue' on Sunday, March 12, 2023 to share some late responses etc. My personal interaction via emails and WhatsApp will continue. The relief will be, your inboxes will not be crowded with compilation of links and articles, many of which can be accessed elsewhere. I'm aware, many of the recipients of Collage are not aware what the hell the Collage was all about! For their information, Warrier's Collage was an offshoot of the pandemic, meant to help out some of my friends who lost connection with the outside world because of mobility restrictions. Collage had its "closing bells" few months ago and has been around still as an 'Occasional Paper' for some reasons. Thanks 🙏 & Regards 🙏 M G Warrier
