‘Doing business’ rankings don’t seem right | Business Line

My VIEW:

NITI Aayog should build
up In-house expertise for guiding government departments and agencies in
ensuring better coordination among those responsible for providing assistance
and ensuring infrastructure and linkage support for those setting up business
in India.
‘Single Window’ approach
may not be practical for bringing together services and facilities necessary
for setting up units in different sectors. But, it should be possible to put in
place an information system which will reduce the play of middlemen who extract
a price for ‘fast track’ clearances. Under parameters like number of procedures
or number of documents, it should be possible to merge some of them and
eliminate the ones which would have become redundant with the passage of time.
The Committee for
Reforming the Regulatory Environment (Damodaran Committee, 2012) had approached
the whole issue with common-sense and made several recommendations. May be, follow
up action has started yielding results.
