Why Raghuram Rajan's message is important, but could rebound on RBI | Business Standard Editorials

My VIEW:

As the
initial responses, even in the media, to Dr Rajan’s address on October 31 were
based on hearsay, I had posted the text of the speech at my Blog. Those who
perused the text did not find the content ‘objectionable’. I think the people
who scare Dr Rajan about his ‘job’ should review their position, in the present
context. The ‘conduct rules’ of the civil servant imposed on India by the
British while reluctantly leaving India has done enough harm by suppressing
dissent in civil service. This decade has seen an awakening of ‘WE THE PEOPLE’ (Ref:
Preamble of Indian Constitution) and RBI employees including RBI Governor are
part of the people who enjoy constitutional freedom. Many of us are still to
grasp fully the change in the attitude of average Indian citizen. My reading is
that several initiatives including India Against Corruption have instilled
confidence in the post-Independence generation that ‘change is possible’. I
look at the current debate from this angle.
