Warrier's Collage June 13, 2022

Welcome To Warrier's COLLAGE On Monday June 13, 2022 1) Search for Habitable Planets By Prof Anand Narayanan* https://youtu.be/nVXLW4IQ6tk *Anand is son of R Narayanan Ex-RBI and my batchmate now settled in Thiruvananthapuram. 2) Expanding Universe https://youtu.be/9DrBQg_n2Uo Good Morning Nice Day M G Warrier Thoughts* for the Day : I love this analogy! You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere. Why did you spill the coffee? "Because someone bumped into me!!!" Wrong answer. You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup. Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea. Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out. Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It's easy to fake it, until you get rattled. So we have to ask ourselves : “What's in my cup?" When life gets tough, what spills over? Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility? Anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions? Life provides the cup, YOU choose how to fill it. Today let's work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation; and kindness, gentleness and love for others. Shared from a friend whose cup is full of goodness and inspiration *Received from Saravana Varma Mumbai A Messages/Responses 1) C V Subbaraman The Time Bank concept is extremely attractive. I wonder why this has not become infective. Why not Collage send it to some progressive, benevolent, charitable minded business houses like the Tatas and Rahul Bajajs and Aditya Birlas for starting jointly a Time Bank in India? Subbaraman 2) Deepali Pant Joshi Archibald Macleash "A poem should not mean, but be". Poetry, essentially, is an exposition of a universal experience, fleeting thought a wisp of memory. 3) S Nallasivan Hardly a couple of days back Warrier's Collage carried an item on the famous Columnist, T J S George whose " Point of View" unfailingly adorned the Sunday Indian Express. He is not an Octogenarian, but one who has been on course to hit his Century shortly. But he carried a very strong following and he has been unafraid and wrote boldly even when it has become a routine affair for those who were not on the same page with the ruling dispensation suffered detention under the draconian Section 124 A, Sedition Charges. After recording an unusual feat of unbroken 1300 instalments over a period of 25 long years, he has decided to bid his farewell. His farewell message has appeared in the last instalment* of " Point of View " today (June 12, 2022) S Nallasivan via Group Email. *Link : https://www.newindianexpress.com/opinions/columns/t-j-s-george/2022/jun/12/now-is-the-time-to-say-goodbye-2464518.html Prime Ministers may come and go, home ministers may say this and that, but the essence of India will go on, unaffected by the manipulations of power-seekers. T J S George (Yes, Nallasivan, on June 7, 2022, Collage carried a link to an article by George published in the online edition of Mainstream Weekly. I also mentioned : "The author George is older than the oldest reader of Collage. We discussed "Why writers write?" last week (YES, WE DID!). See how a journalist born in 1926 pursues the subjects of his childhood interest (Gandhi, Nehru et al) and makes a living by writing about them and their successors (now focus on Modi). One wonders, if there was a reasonable social security system like a regular retirement benefit/pension scheme for freelancers and artists who entertain us life long, how much we would have lost!" 🙏 Apologies 🙏-Warrier) B Current Affairs 1) RBI Governor's Speech : June 9, 2022 https://m.rbi.org.in/Scripts/BS_SpeechesView.aspx?Id=1308 Indian Business : Past, Present and Future (Address by Shri Shaktikanta Das, Governor, Reserve Bank of India - June 9, 2022 - Delivered on the occasion of Iconic Week of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav Celebrations organised by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs in Mumbai) Excerpts : Conclusion India has a long history of industrious entrepreneurs and businesses. In a sense, the evolution of Indian economy is essentially a reflection of the transformation seen in Indian businesses over the years. The story of Indian entrepreneurship is fascinating and now we are witnessing a new generation of entrepreneurs who are the flag-bearers of epochal changes in the conception, organisation and operation of businesses. In my speech today, I have attempted to highlight certain important aspects which are essential features of successful and sustainable businesses. At the Reserve Bank, we do recognise the role of existing as well as emerging businesses for economic progress. Long term success of any business is directly linked to its quality of governance, internal control systems and the robustness of its risk and organisational culture. The Reserve Bank has been pushing for improvements in the governance and compliance culture of its regulated entities through a series of measures. Indian business is now at a critical juncture with both opportunities and challenges. The macroeconomic and geopolitical environment is fast changing and there is a greater need to remain alert. I am confident of our dynamic entrepreneurs having ample capacity to deal with the challenges, capitalise on the opportunities and leap forward. Let me end by recalling what Steve Jobs said about the role of perseverance in success: “If you really look closely, most overnight successes took a long time.” 2) National Land Monetization Corporation https://pib.gov.in/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1804287 A media report : https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/the-national-land-monetisation-corporation/article65223601.ece Excerpts from Chapter 1 : Agenda for Modi, Restoring TRUST in Governance by M G Warrier (2020) : Excerpts From Chapter 1 Of My Book Restoring Trust In Governance : "Resources Management Though Our Country Has Only One-Third The Geographical Area As Compared To US With More Than 3 Times That Country’s Population, We Are Blessed With Much More Resources And A Much Better Weather Cycle. Also, We Are Yet To Appropriately Exploit The Potential Of Our Skilled Workforce. (A) Land And Buildings We Should Immediately Take Up A Survey Of Usable Land And Buildings In Cities And Towns With A Population Of 5 Lakhs And Above. The Survey Should Cover Rashtrapathi Bhavan To Temple/Mosque/Church Premises With An Objective Of Optimal Use For Public Advantage. For Example, The Possibility Of Ministerial Bungalows Spread Over The Whole City Getting Substituted By Residential Complexes In The Vicinity Of Parliament House, Secretariats Or Legislative Houses Can Be Considered. The Excess Land And Buildings That Will Get Released Will Be Worth Billions Which Can Be Redeployed For Economic Development. The City Traffic Also Will Become Smooth." E Liquid Diet https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/327496#what-to-eat The foods that a person should eat on a full liquid diet depend on their nutritional needs and a doctor's recommendations. A person may be able to consume the following: all of the foods that a clear liquid diet allows, including: water fruit juices lemonade soup broth gelatin honey tea coffee popsicles pureed fruits and vegetables strained or pureed soups milk strained or pureed meats baby food cream of wheat strained oatmeal smoothies protein drinks and other liquid nutritional supplements ice cream milkshakes margarine, butter, and mayonnaise pudding It can be challenging to get enough protein and fiber on a full liquid diet, so people following this diet — especially if they are doing so for longer than a few days — should prioritize nutrient-dense foods. F Leisure RD Jokes about Dieting https://www.rd.com/jokes/diet-jokes/ Chitragupta's Problem* : One day Chitragupta told Bramha that he should stop this scheme that if ladies keep Varalakshmi pooja...they will get the same husband for the next 7 janmas. Brahma asked, ”Why"❓ Chitragupta : .Sir, its becoming difficult to manage... The wife wants the same Husband and the husband wants a new wife. Its a problem to convince both. Bramha : But this can't be stopped. It's been going on since times immemorial. Just then Narada comes and he suggested : On earth, there is a great person called "Chanakya" Ask him for a solution. (Chitragupta meets "Chanakya") In one minute "Chanakya" solves the problem. He advised Chitragupta : Any wife who wants the same husband, tell her that she will also get the same "MOTHER IN LAW" for the next 7 lives. All women screamed "Oh God, No!!!" Problem solved. *Shared by S Venugopal Chennai via Group mail G Quotes on Galaxies https://www.brainyquote.com/topics/galaxy-quotes Like : When you look at the stars and the galaxy, you feel that you are not just from any particular piece of land, but from the solar system.
