Welcome To Warrier's COLLAGE On Sunday June 12, 2022 1) March of Penguins https://youtu.be/L7tWNwhSocE 2) Penguins Dance https://youtu.be/uf0uKmKwnKs Good Morning Happy Birthday to all readers having Birthday during the week ending Saturday June 18, 2022. Ayurarogyasaukhyam 🙏 and Best Wishes to all. Due to time and space constraints, many responses/messages from readers are not included in Collage. Care is however taken to make improvements in the contents where feasible. 🙏 Nice Day M G Warrier A Messages/ Responses 1) C V Subbaraman I am deeply touched by the apologies of the Editor (for inadvertent omissions/amendments) and more so by Shri Babusenan's beautiful comments on emotions and poetry. I consider the omitted portions (written in red) very important for carrying the emotions to their climactical end: "I shall live alone, so too walk and die, And at my death none ever needs to cry. The Earth will rotate, all galaxies move, Unmindful of events, each in its groove." And closely thereafter, I thought who my companion in this world is. And that gave rise to another poetical answer: My True Companion I ambled alone in moonlight by night, As the twinkling stars above were in sight. I felt some one followed me close behind: I turned back to see, but I failed to find Any one. Was it then my illusion Or the legendary ghost, a vision? I was greatly puzzled, but not afraid, For I had nothing to provoke a raid. Then I moved on, summoning more courage, Yet again, I felt some in camouflage Was behind my back. I once turned to spy And said aloud, “Hi, who stands so close by And why?” To this in response thus I heard, As tho someone unto my ears whispered: “I am you, your constant companion, I follow you wherever you are on: Not to keep a watch on you, but to do What you do, save when darkness passes thru. I shall do what you do in moon lit night Or when you go out in the broad sunlight I cannot avoid this well -ordained show, For I am none but your own true shadow.” And when we leave this world, our shadows too will leave! All this thought should teach us a good lesson, I hope. Regards Subbaraman 2) V Babusenan Somerset Maugham wrote his first novel and, as anyone else would have done, gave the manuscript to a scholar friend for correction. The friend did a sincere and thorough job and, when it was duly returned, the novelist could not recognize his own work. He rewrote the whole thing and that was what we read as 'Liza of Lambeth'. Shakespeare wrote his plays and gave them to the actors to rehearse. Had there been an editor, a stickler for grammar, we would have lost the famous line : "The most unkindest cut of all". I fully appreciate the stand of the Editor of Collage and is moved by the response of Shri Subbaraman. An editor will do well not to touch a work of poetry as even the poet himself may not know the full impact of a word he has used. The readers of Collage are, in a sense, grateful to the Editor for bringing out another profound poem from Shri Subbaraman. It is on one's own shadow. That reminds me of a beautiful Malayalam film song, sung by S Janaki for a1968 film, the opening lines of which I quote here : "Chirikkumpol koode chirikkaan Aayiramper koode varum. Karayumpol koode karayaan Nin nizhal maathram varum. (When you laugh, there will join a thousand persons to laugh with you;but when you cry, only your own shadow will join.) 3) M G Warrier My Latest Blog At Times Of India Reader's Blog : WarriersViews Https://Timesofindia.Indiatimes.Com/Readersblog/Warriersviews/My-Journey-So-Far-Prologue-43305/ Excerpts : "I abruptly started posting my series “My journey so far” at this blog and the journey has not been moving forward fast. As I have not prepared any draft or planned the content the progress is slow. A friend enquired, “What’s happening, when can we expect Chapter 8?” I’ve to follow some discipline. Someone is keeping track! Ideally, “My Story” should begin from my birth. But I am not able to recall much from my pre-school days. In a previous blog (“Born with a horoscope”) I had attempted to write about my birth." B Current Affairs RBI Governor's Speech On June 10, 2022 Https://M.Rbi.Org.In/Scripts/BS_SpeechesView.Aspx?Id=1309 Excerpts : Inaugural Address By Governor, Shri Shaktikanta Das at the Annual Statistics Conference of the Department of Statistics and Information Management (DSIM), Reserve Bank of India in Guwahati on June 10, 2022 Good morning! 2. I am delighted to be here in Guwahati, the gateway to North-Eastern India. The ‘Annual Statistics Conference - 2022’ of the Department of Statistics and Information Management (DSIM), which is being held after a hiatus1 is an important event in the calendar of activities of the RBI. The earlier conference, which was scheduled here in March 2020 was cancelled a day before it was to commence due to the onset of COVID-19 pandemic. 3. The ancient name of the city of Guwahati, i.e. Pragjyotishpura means 'the abode of light in the east'. The enlightened and vibrant environment here will certainly provide the right backdrop for deliberations on sharing work-learnings. It will help refine the processes and plan strategies for future work agenda of central and regional offices. Such conferences provide refreshing and valuable impetus to our work in an informal setting with professional peers. 4. I am glad that many academicians are participating in today's event to provide feedback on the research work done by our officers. Their presence means a lot, especially for our younger officers, in their pursuit of high quality research work. ****. **** **** Learning and pursuit of excellence have no boundaries. As we move ahead, each one of you has to be a leader in your own domain and student in other domains. The reputation of any individual or team or institution is built with hard and sustained efforts. I am sure you will continue to enrich your knowledge, enhance your presentation skills, lead your teams and ensure best possible work delivery. You must constantly strive to produce good statistics, analysis and research by investing in yourself. C Sunday Collage : V T PANCHAPAGESAN OPEN YOUR HEART TO ANOTHER'S TROUBLES, AND YOUR OWN WILL BE EASIER TO BEAR... TIME BANK : AMAZING CONCEPT!!! A student studying in Switzerland writes: While studying in Switzerland, he rented a house near his College. The landlady was a 67-year-old single lady who had worked as a teacher in a secondary school before she retired. Switzerland's pension is very good, enough not to worry about food and shelter in her later years. However, she actually found work to take care of an 87-year-old single man. He asked her whether she was working for money. She said, not works for money, but put her time in the "TIME BANK" and when she cannot move in her old age, she can withdraw it. He got curious and asked her for more details on this concept. She said original Time Bank* was an old-age pension program developed by the Swiss Federal Ministry of Social Security. People save the 'time' taking care of the elderly when they are younger, and when they become old, ill or need care, can withdraw it. Applicants must be healthy, good at communicating and full of love. Everyday they have to look after the elderly who need help. Their service hours will be deposited into the personal 'TIME' accounts of the social security system. She goes to work twice a week, spending two hours each time helping the elderly, shopping, cleaning their rooms, taking them out to sunbath, chatting with them. According to the agreement, after one year of her service, Time Bank will calculate her aggregate period she has worked and will issue her a "TIME BANK CARD". And, when she needs someone to take care of her, she can use her time bank card to withdraw“time and time interest". After proper verification, Time Bank will assign other volunteers to take care of her at the hospital or at her home. One day, the landlady called and told him that she fell off the chair while wiping the window. He quickly sent her to the hospital for treatment. She had fracture in her ankle and needed to stay in bed for a few days. He was about to apply for leave to take care of her, She told him not to worry about her. Also said, she had already submitted a withdrawal request to the TIME BANK. In less than two hours, Time Bank sent a nursing worker to come and take care of that lady. The nursing worker took care of HER everyday, chatted with her and made delicious meals for her. Under the meticulous care of the nursing worker, the landlady soon recovered her health. After recovering, the landlady went back to "work". She said that she intends to save more time in the Time Bank while she is still healthy. Today, in Switzerland, the use of Time Bank to support old age has become a common practice. The Swiss government also passed legislation to support the Time Bank Scheme. What a beautiful concept! Hope it gets adopted or gets a thought amongst us.
