Madam, The story narrated by you makes interesting reading. But while accepting honour of Commander in Chief of
Kaurava Army, Bheeshma makes it very clear that he would kill millions in the Pandava Army but he will not harm any of the Pandava brothers.
When Drona succeeds Bheeshma, Duryodhan is relieved that Drona does not suffer any such partial treatment.
Regards,
Chittanandam
(Thanks 🙏 Hope, the word Collage preceding Duryodhana is not accidental :-)-Warrier )

Great explanation comparing COVID and Kovidha. There was an examination titled 'Kovida'
conducted by Samskrita Sahitya Parishad which we passed out in 1956*. I never even imagined
that COVID 19 is comparable to kovidha. The author should really be a Kovidha
to think of such fine comparison which is really true.

Writing pages and pages is no problem at all. Being the editor is "the most unkindest cut of all"
in Shakespearean language. Selecting the articles is comparable to choosing fragrant flowers
and presenting a kadamba mala catering to the needs of readers of different age groups.
It is not a simple task as we imagine. Only certain individuals like Shri Warrier are blessed with such skills.
Congrats Warrier
(Thanks. Making mala for use in temples is the traditional job of Warriers in Kerala 🙏-Warrier
The "Kovida" Exam :

*Those days, we in Malabar prepared for Hindi examinations conducted by Dakshin Bharat
Hindi Prachar Sabha, Thyagaraja Nagar, Madras 17. I have passed the third one
"Rashtra Bhasha" which helped me pass the "Pragya" exam while working in AG's Office Thiruvananthapuram.
In High School we had four languages, English, Hindi, Sanskrit and Malayalam-

Sanskrit was considered as a language created by and for Gods. People from lower strata were
neither allowed to learn nor speak. That is why a great saint of Maharashtra Dnyaneshwar,
who desired to spread the knowledge of Geeta among poor masses, said ''संस्कृत भाषा देवे केली_
प्राकृत काय चोरापासोन आली ?"
Meaning, "If Sanskrit language is created by Gods,
then who created Prakrit ( a dialect of earlier Marathi language spoken by people at large then),
certainly not by thieves. He therefore wrote Dnyaneshwari in Marathi for the benefit of masses
explaining them in detail the meaning behind each Ovi..The Grantha is immensely popular
and is avidly read repeatedly by devotees.

Philosophy
Collage Essay By Vathsala Jayaraman
Who is the real philosopher?
There was a great philosopher. He was living with his wife and two children in the outskirts of England.
Very often he used to go on tours months together for giving lectures on philosophy, return home, spend
a day or two with the family, and once again proceed on his mission. He never cared for his family.

Collage Profile : S Venugopal Chennai
Chennaiite does not stop raising civic issues*
NT Bureau, May 10, 2017
Chennai : Anybody who is an ardent reader of a newspaper would have come across
the name S Venugopalan in the letters to the editor column. His writings always
highlight the civic issues of Chennai, most importantly the locality as he is a
resident of Vannandurai, Adyar in the city. This common man tells us his unknown story.
"I grew up hearing my father's voice in All India Radio, the first journalism seed
sown in my head. Also, I used to read anything I lay my hands on and am a huge fan
of PG Woodhouse. When I used to read, I started imaging myself as a writer and that is
where it all started," he says.
His initial education was not synonymous with his passion. So, in 1965, he joined Reserve Bank of India and served for 38 years. But passion never dies, so after he took voluntary retirement, he applied for post graduation in journalism
in University of Madras when he was 61 years old.
"It was a great experience and all my classmates are now journalists in reputed
organisations. Unlike them, I started doing citizen reporting and sent mails to each
and every media house about the civic issues in the society and was surprised to know
that they were actually interested in my stories, "he explained.
Venugopalan is a known face in his locality and people know where to go, when they have a problem.
He wrote about improper bus shelters, garbage collection, traffic and a lot of issues which were addressed immediately.
Talking about present day journalism, he says, "Today, scribes have got all the facilities and there are many young talents which is highly appreciable. But, in yesteryears, the commitment
people showed cannot be matched."
This 72-year-old is also a fan of Carnatic music. He started Madhurai Mani Maddy's Club
where the members gather together to hear the songs of Mani. We also wear personalised
t-shirts with his photo and perform to his songs, he joyfully remarked.
Venugopalan proves that age is just a number and not a barrier to pursue your dreams.
*This informative media report (News Today) was shared via Group mail by S Venugopal recently. Thanks 🙏 to him. Collage readers already know Venugopal. Long ago Venu (esvee) introdúced me to RBI Chennaifriends Group. Since then I am his fan -Warrier

Tapioca Thief, find out who!

Suddenly, Damu touched my hand, pointing to the tapioca plants nearby.
That was part of my mother’s kitchen garden. Damu asked : “Shall we eat some raw tapioca ?”
I could see hunger on his face and body language. Normally no one eats uncooked tapioca.
I signalled okay. We pulled out two or three tapioca plants and could get a couple of thin roots.
Damu removed the thick skin from the roots and ate the raw tapioca finishing it quickly.
Both of us resumed our wait for falling mangoes. We were not lucky that day.

Ramayana Masam*
Dear Ones,
Ramayana Maasam (The month of Ramayanam) is coming very soon. From July 17 to August 16 is Ramayana Maasam. This year, during this sacred one month period, let us together read the book titled Ramayana Tattwam. This Itihasa Grantham explains in depth the Ramayana Tattvam. Poojya Swamiji Jnanananda Saraswathi is a highly respected Mahatma and Sanyasi in Kerala's Spiritual field. The book we have selected to read, Ramayana Tattwam is a grantham written by Pūjya Swamiji.
In this book of 230 pages, the portion titled 'Rama Gita' is omitted. We will read the rest of the 200 pages. Seven chapters will be divided into 31 parts and one part will be read on each of the 31 days of Ramayana Maasam. The audio clip which will be between 10 and 20 minutes long, will posted along with it.
Along with the narration of the story of Ramayana, this highly regarded grantam also highlights the underlying Tattwam. It is hoped and requested that everyone participate in this Vaayana Group.
Those interested in joining the Group can do so by clicking on the link given below. Please feel free to pass this link on to family and friends. Please consider this as Jnaana Yajnam and Ramayana Yajnam and see that as many people as possible participate in this.

"You are meant to be successful"

The river water has to go to the sea; then get evaporated to get free from salts and fall back into the river after cycles. The trees have to shed their leaves to get new ones. They have to endure loneliness as their leaves fall. The sheep have to grow wool in the harsh winters, and get it removed in the summer. The terrain has to stand the harsh weather and the disasters. Like all of these are meant to be going through pain and despair; the seed of the tree, fallen in soil has to struggle, grow and strengthen its roots. Through the soil it struggles to sprout.

'" last two years have dampened the enthusiasm of most of the people. students couldn\'t attend classes, workers couldn\'t reach factories and offices and many lost livelihood. how to motivate them?
\"keep a â never give up attitudeâ . always play to win and if you fail, use it as an asset. then turn it into a beginning, for yet another great success. when you restart after failure; you donâ t start from scratch, but your earlier experience.\"
perhaps words like the above may change the attitude of some. any tilt to positivism should be welcomed when print and electronic media are going after sensitivism to earn readership and viewership at the cost of future credibility'"

“My early childhood memories center around this typical American country store and life
in a small American town, including Fourth of July celebrations marked by fireworks
and patriotic music played from a pavilion bandstand.”

On one such occasion he returned home after 15 months, and started giving a detailed account of his
lectures and the accolades he received from the intellectuals and about the series of talks on philosophy
he intended to give in future. After three hrs of patient listening, the wife started.
"Behold, My Dear, some 10 years back an old lady came to our house, handed over a precious jewel to me asking me to keep it safe. After 2 years the same old lady gave
another piece of ornament to me and requested me to have
them in my custody and return to her whenever she came
and asked for. I also agreed. I used to polish the jewels,
and felt very happy to possess them and see them shine.
Every now and then I looked at them with pride.
Five months back, suddenly the jewels started losing their lustre. I tried my best to polish them, but in vain.
I went to a professional polishing house and tried to bring back the brilliance. But the trial didn't help much. Meanwhile the old lady came home one day and asked me to return the jewels, in whatever condition they were. I tried my level best to retain the jewels. But the old lady was very stubborn
and took back the jewels."
The wife was calmly narrating the events. It took some time for the great philosopher to realise that both of his dear children lost their lives in a severe fever on the same day some months back.
Let us decide who the real philosopher was.
