Warrier's Daily Mail, May 13, 2020 : Transcendental Meditation (TM)

Me to You:

Since the days I was writing weekly letters, then titled "My Page" (1990's), to my son who was then in a hostel in a remote village (Islampur/Ishwarpur) in Maharashtra, to date while putting together this daily mail, I have been enjoying this "cut & paste" job. My target audience has grown from 1 to 100 or so during these 30 years. Now I get daily responses from 10 or 20 recipients of my message. Some of the personal responses force me to think of tomorrow's message today.
Let me record my gratitude to those who read my messages, here.
If you like the links/forwards, share further. If you want me to make improvements, please let me know.

"BAAN STAMBH" at Somnath Temple

A pillar in the premises of Somnath temple, known as Baan Stambh (Arrow Pillar)

There is a pillar in the premises of Somnath temple. This is known as Baan Stambh (Arrow Pillar). It is difficult to say that since what time it is there. Going back by taking history as reference, it has been there *since at least the sixth century*
It is not possible to tell exactly how much older it is.

On the Pole it is inscribed:

" आसमुद्रान्त दक्षिण ध्रुव पर्यंत अबाधित ज्योतिर्मार्ग "

This means - there is no hindrance in the straight line from this point to the south pole. And yes, in reality today we know there is no piece of land in this path right up to the South Pole, nearly 10000 km away. Amazing!

This is a wonderful indicator of ancient Indian wisdom. Remember, at that time the rest of the world was still learning how to survive in the jungles.

This means to our ancestors knew not only that the earth is round, but  that the earth is having a South Pole (and, the North Pole as well). Did they have Earth's 'Aerial View'? If not, did the Earth's map exist at that time?

The Baan Stambh identifying its location as the first point of land to the north of the South Pole is yet another illustration of the knowledge of astronomy, geography, mathematics and indeed maritime sciences of the ancient India, an invaluable element of our vast rich heritage.
